So, I got to pick up this 2011 RS Camaro from the dealership to drive it in our Christmas parade. Nice car, but not as fast as my GTP.

must have a super awsome gtp
The 2011 V6s are only rated 312HP to the crank... Not hard to beat that with a GP, especially with the way the tunes are from the factory on the Automatic Camaros.
It was definitely not as fast as my car. From a stop I have much quicker acceleration than the RS. I even turned off the TC button and put it in manual to try to do a burnout. It just barely chirped the tires
It was a nice car, and it had pretty good pickup after 50. I only brought her up to 90ish on the freeway. I would like to try the SS now. Has anybody ever run one of these? What are their stock 1/4 mile times?
Most run's I've seen have been low 13's, seen some high 12's too. They're ok, but nothing too special for the price. Considering stock LS1's and 03/04 Cobras have been known to run the same.
You shoulda got a manual. My sisters husband just got a 2012 SS/RS, and he doesn't have any issues breakin em loose.
He also has over 100hp more than the one I was driving.
I asked the dealer for an SS. He didn't want people that were "borrowing" these vehicles to have too much power. Damn that møtherfücker!
He knew we would have smoked the tires..... Oh well. I wouldn't buy one after driving it around. Even the misses likes the GTP more than the camaro. She likes telling people she drives a sleeper.
plus they weigh almost 2 tons... that has alot to do with it too...
I love playing with them here in lawrence cuz its always some frat kid that thinks hes hard...
that one's even a convertible
I don't know what "Lulz..." is, but fanboy? Interesting concept - a person who loves something without question. I like it. I'm the same with my wife. I prefer the term allegiance, though, or perhaps loyal. Maybe even devoted. Those are all good adjectives and I'm fine with them.
Camaros should never have gotten less than 8 cylinders, I would rather have a Mustang GT than a v6 Camaro, Coyote 302, yes please. Honestly GM hasn't impressed me with much in the last few years other than the ZR1, even the Camaro SS's are castrated off the line, even with tractions control and Stabilitrac off. The pickups have kind of been left behind, if I had $100,000 to spend on a truck and a car I would get a new Sportsman Ram and a new Mustang GT or a Challenger SRT8, possibly a Corvette. I have driven plenty of new Camaros and although they are nice cars I'm not impressed with what they are compaired to what they shoud be.

ya thats pretty weak if you ask me...
the Challenger SRT8s are like any other dodge product out there... over rated...
the new mustang GTs are decent for what they are for sure (minus the millions of transmission failures)... but unless you look at something like the Cobra Jet they really dont offer much else... I mean the "legendary" GT500 can barely do better than my grand prix in a quarter... and the Corvette Z06 (ya, didn even have to go to the ZR1 for this) out performs any of the new mustang line up by far...
to each their own though...
Let me start out by saying that I'm not trying to come at you with some kind of Ford > Chevy attitude, because I don't believe that for a second.
"but unless you look at something like the Cobra Jet they really dont offer much else"
What does this^ mean? They don't offer much else...are you talking about product line or aftermarket support? Product line wise, well they have the V6, GT, boss, gt500, super snake....I think they have more then enough. The mustang has always had a huge aftermarket following, and the new line up is no different. I'll spare you videos/articles showing bolt on 5.0's in the 11's, as I'm sure you don't give a damn. But come on, really?
Also, why are you comparing the GT500 to the Z06? I'd take a Z06 over just about any mustang anyday...but the two cars aren't even in the same class. Compare it to the Camaro...for the longest time, that was more then enough for the GM faithfull. What changed? The msrp on the 12 GT500 starts just shy of 49K. The 12 Z06...75K. No arguements here which is the better car obviously, but that's like saying your car is crap because the G8 GXP is soooo much better. How much would a GXP run you? About 25K more then what your car is worth? Fair to compare...I think not.
As Ford continues to push the mustangs, so chevy will continue to push the camaro. There is a line that chevy can't cross with the camaro though, and that line is the corvette. Just because the new mustangs are out performing the new camaros, both v8 and v6 versions, that doesn't mean that Ford is now aiming for the corvette. Ford doesn't really have anything to compete with the corvette lineup, and the Ford GT is more or less a novelty in comparision.
The rivalry has always been mustang vs camaro...and that's how it should stay. To have to bring the Corvette into it, shows weakness from the camaro. You guys know how that goes, remember, ya'll like to say "Ford had to use a supercharger to keep up"...oh wait...
I said the last few years, 2005 is 7 years ago, if we are talking car years thats 8. Z06 has had the same powerplant since then, thats why I went to the ZR1, also its not a competitor to the Mustang, thats what the Camaro is for, Corvette and GT40 are competitors. After driving Hemi Dodge cars and a hand full of SS Camaros the Dodge offers more seat of the pants fun trying to stop the wheel spin. My personal opinion, I like the Challengers because they did the best job of the retro style thing. I like Mustangs because they did the best moderizing retro style and if they follow suit with any Stang starting with the fox bodies, they will like bolt ons ALOT. For me the Camaros are still a cool car but out of the pony cars its last.
