I misunderstood what you were saying about ur brakes (thought u meant when u raced that guy)if they are grinding really bad then u need new brakes ASAP!!!! They are probably the original brakes on the back, and they could be falling apart. You should definitely have the calipers checked they are pretty bad on those cars. If ur going to wait try not to drive ur car much it might help and take it easy on the brakes.
