Well I had a race with a 04ish GLI. Looked nice as hell. Ran it from the bottom of 2nd. We got up to about 70 and I was 3 cars ahead. He had him and another guy. Wasn't bad but I wish I had been able to run from 1st instead as it would have been worse. Oh did I mention I had my other transmission in my car lol.

Nah, the GLI, if it was an 04, had the 1.8T. The newer GLI has the 2.0T.

Not a bad kill. I assume that it was mostly stock. They can be made to be pretty quick but, from what I've seen, they run out of potential pretty fast. I know someone with meth and a big turbo upgrade and I think he's still in the 13s.

Yeah the GLI was the top model, has the 1.8T with a 6 speed manual. This one had the ground effect, basicly the best looking jetta from the factory IMO. I think there was another GLI version that had the V6 with a 6 speed and different wheels from the factory. Don't let the VR6 fool you it can become a real beast. It sounded stock so I'm guessing it was. I only have a down pipe and intake, haven't even dropped a pulley or anything. I thought it would have had more, if we did a dig I would destroyed it.

I hope when I get my trans in and my car a bit more up to snuff with the 3.4" pulley and such I can get more races but no one around here wants to....

If it was a chipped 1.8T it would be putting down almost 280 hp though. I'm a dubber myself and VW's are pretty quick, especially in turns, but then again they weight about 800 lbs less than a GP. This is an impressive kill though none the less.

1.8T's are detuned like crazy from the factory becuase they run at a really low boost from factory, and the auto trans have a ton of power loss as compared to the 5 or so % in a manual. With a chip (or pcm tune as you GP owners call it) the 1.8T can reach almost 300 hp just becuase it bumps up the boost pressure.

I know people that build up 1.8T's with tons of mods (divertar valve, intake, exhaust, intercooler, bigger injectors, plugs and wires) but all of that is wasted time and money when they could have just put 500 bucks for a chip into a completely stock engine and get a 50% increase in power and a 65% increase in torque. Not bad for 30 seconds of your time and one click of a mouse. Sure wish the VR6 was like that, heck I wish the 3.8 n/a or supercharged got that much increase from just a tune.

So, you run a 15 what?

I've got the koni adjustable GMPP kit, 3" RT DP, ZZP S1 HVTB, Corsa catback, Wizaired intake, ZZP offset polys, Ceramic 304 PLog, AL605s, and a rear PEM and I ran a 14.8.

Intake and catback on the 1.8T isn't going to yield hardly any gain. Like what's already been mentioned, they really start to shine with a tune. And when they go turbo back exhaust and a stage 2 tune, it's goodnight.

how old are you? thats not to be little. but when i was 17-18-19 i'd do that all day. now a days at the ripe old age of 24 i just get scared.. way more so of the cops and the tickets. but still. When you're young it's definatly a thrill.

In my 06 GLI, I was never able to get a good time...quite a few mods, intake, chip, exhaust, diverter valve.

    Best time was a 15.01 at 101mph.

60' was just under 3 seconds. With my street tires, traction just couldn't be found, even at 3000ft of elevation in Tucson. That and the open diff really doesn't help.
