Wow, you sound upset. 3000GT's are high maintainance cars as they are equipped with many options. Though I will not further highjack this thread I could show you some pictures of mine to prove it is not junk. In fact, with only minor bolt-ons I was able to run a 12.9 on only 13 psi, which it is now on 14.5 psi. Either way, good kill.

I like them...I'd never mind owning a VR4...it is just they have been known to break down more than my GTP does lol

Don't mind that guy...all he does is mad mouth every thread because he thinks he is the best thing man was created. Just talks a lot of ****...noob.

I am not too worried about him. There is nothing wrong with old technology anyway. A lot of old cars kick ass. And if he does mean that, you are telling someone with a twin turbo, all wheel steering, adjustable suspension, DOHC, AWD car that it is ancient technology. You are riding in a FWD car with a pushrod motor in it. I guess I am confused. I don't think there is anything wrong with pushrods as they have proved themselves to be quite competitive even in today's cars, but that drivetrain certainly isn't anything new.

Well, unfortunately you do see VR4's broken down because there are so many people who buy them and then don't take the proper steps to maintain them. They are fairly expensive to maintain but they are not a cheap car. In 94, my VR4 sold for $45k so it should be expected that it won't be all that cheap to maintain. All these kids get a hold of the SL's and then rod the hell out of them with minimal maintaining. Either way, if you guys would like to further discuss this I have a, "hello" thread in the introductions that you could post in as I would like to hear your comments. I just don't want to highjack this thread anymore. I just came in to say good race.

Yeah, I beat one of those 3000GT's with my stock 1977 Datsun 280Z, they look nice, but couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag!

Yeah, but when saying, "3000GT's are junk cars" you should probably mention the fact that some of their owners don't actually maintain them the way the should be. Therefore it is the people, and in more cases than not, not the car.

Bolt-on turbos which is about a day's project can easily put one into 11's if drag racing is your poison. 15G's with injectors and a fuel management and you are ready to rock n' roll at the cost of about $2k if you bargain hunt.

true that, I would agree that the teenage ricers have alot to do with giving such cars a bad rap by poor mataince and improper upgrade installation

My friends 3000GT was actually pretty nice sounding and pulled decently but you could tell that down low it just didn't have what it needed to pull that heavy of a car. Up top is where it lived really. Never driven in a turbo one but I'd figure AWD and twin turbo's would be quite the adventurous ride lol.

Yeah dagger, the SL's don't have a whole lot of down low power, but up-top isn't too bad. The SL's weigh about ~3200lbs or a little more without a definate number off the top of my head. My auto SL serves as a great daily driver but does not start off quick by any means. The manuals do much better for the SL's as the can rev launch but they too aren't the quickest cars out there. As I said, a good drive in a SL can pull a low 15 and even sometimes a 15 flat but it all depends on the driver. Overall, between a 5 speed SL stock and a Eaton M90 GTP I would give the nod to the GTP in overall likeliness of winning that race. With bolt-ons they can achieve 14's pretty quick and with a twin turbo upgrade to the VR4's standards they are viciously quick from a roll but have horrible traction issues. I have seen twin turbo SL's trap over 110mph in the 1/4 with only a low 13 1/4 to show for it with such a lack of traction. Most people that build them that way (which is pretty easy to do actually) use them for highway fun and not a serious drag car anyway.
