So as the title state my new tires are smoking hot literally.

My rear driver side tire is rubbing on something while in motion and causing it to smoke. I think its hitting this part...

Now my question is, is this the result of a new tire? I know my last set were pretty worn down but this is just crazy! (And accounts for the high road noise I reported after getting them yesterday ) Or do I need new struts?

A speedy response would be Dandy thanks all.

Ok sorry I meant to point out what I think is the "Bump stop"

Matt when you say something may be broken what do you think it could be?

What size tire are you running? Something has to be out of wack if you were running the same size previously..jack up the car and check all around the wheel fender area..around the strut etc.

It's always time for coilovers! ...unless it's time for air bags.
What size tire are you running and are you on factory wheels or what is the offset of you aftermarket wheel if that is the case?

Heh well, my initial thought is that when I slapped on the GXP wheels they were so worn down that they cleared. They were the original OEM tires on the GXP wheels. And now these Michelin's are just too wide, the side wall does bulge which I kinda liked for future curbing issues.

To reiterate I just got a set of 235/50/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

Going from a set of Goodyear Eagle RSAs 235/50/18

So the only change was tires..or did you do struts as well? I would the rear on a set of jacks and rotate the wheel to verify where's its rubbing/touching.

Is the ride reasonable otherwise? no vibrations or sloppiness?

Ride is good, it was loud but that was due to the rubbing. And no other suspension mods, although now im prompted to order a set of coilovers and just get that taken care of (Less parts = good times right?)

The guys from Discount are serving me well, they sent a tech to my office, he assessed the situation mobile and even threw on a spare and took it back into the shop. Just got off the phone with them and they decided on going with a 245/45/18 with the same tire as I originally purchased.

So the final report is the guys at Discount set me up with the same set of tires only in 245/45/18 as most run on the site. They are working out great, no more howling and rubbing and ride is smooth and quite and grippy. Thanks all for the feedback.

Now we know not to run those tires on this wheel with a stock suspension. Time for coilovers

PS for some reason the wheel looks better now, still trying to figure out if this a more low profile set up then the 235/50/18? Either way im happy.

I love the look, but now my tire pressure light is on. Is that just a fuse or do I need to plug it in and clear a code?

regals have a rest button in the fuse box for the low tire light. hold it in for 5 seconds. not sure if the GP is the same or not.

If the tires are filled up correctly IIRC you can do it on the DIC or on my car I pull the headlight switch out 3 times fast.
