Not only are they wider than stock, they are taller.

    245/50/16 would be 25.65" tall
    255/50/16 would be 26.04" tall

What's the stock height on the 225/60/16?

    225/60/16 would be 26.63"

If you wanted to go wider you'd need 245/55/16 which would be 26.61" tall. I don't even know why I mentioned the 245/50/16

The width of the tire would concern me. Are those rims 16x7? Or they still the 6.5?

    Apparently a 245/55/16 doesn't even exist.

If you want to go wider, and keep the proper height, your best bet is to go 17's.

255/45r17, but even thats too short.

255/50r16 is a DR/ road course slick size.

    You'd want a 16x8 or 16x8.5 wheel.

Our stock wheels are hardly wide enough for the 225's that are stock.

Not that wider improves traction unless you're overheating your tire.

Overheat tire, go wider, better thermal management, more traction.

Better off investing in a better compound.
