I am thinking about putting new tires and wheels on my 98 GT. Right now I just have the stock wheels on and 255/45/r16 m+s tires on. I would like to get some decent street tires (something that is good in all weather since I live near Seattle) and I would like to go up to maybe 18's and would like something just a shave wider. What is the widest wheel and tire combo that i can install? Also the car is sitting at stock ride height, which it might stay that way, or drop about an inch.

you are running 255s on the stock wheels? wow, youre pushing the limits. usually i only recommend a max of 245 wide on the stockers.

as far as width of the wheels and what not, it really depends on a few things:

    - wheel offset
    - tire size
    - fender work done

tell me what size youre looking at (i see 18s, but is that your definite answer?) and ill tell you how wide you can go with what offsets. the tires are going to be the limiting factor on this by far since the tires rub on the fenders, not the wheels.

I have 225 tires, I mean. I just want to know the biggest size of wheels and tires that I can fit under the wheel wells with out having to worry about offsets and spacers.

I would like to go up to at the most an 18 inch wheel. I was thinking something like maybe a 245 25 18.

holy crap, you do not want to run a 245/25/18. you want to run a 245/45/18.

the widest wheel youre going to fit is 9" wide and the offset has to be in the mid +30mm area (+34mm to +38mm). with the rim this wide youre going to be stretching 245s, and 255s would fit the wheel better. however, with 255s the possibility of you rubbing is not a possibility, its a certainty. even with the 245 youre pushing it with such wide wheels.
