Well after much thought and fretting, I finally made a decision on tires for the front of the GXP.

    Continental ExtremeContact DWS

I really liked the Continentals that I had on my 2000 GTP. They have only been on for a few days now....so I don't have a good feel for them it this moment. The OEM's were pretty much used up still had tread, but with winter coming on and driving 50 miles one way to work, I thought it was time to **** or get off the pot.
Right now they feel good, the car doesn't wander all over the highway and they hang in there good through the turns, but their new and I guess anything would have been an improvement. I'll let you know how I feel the tires are preforming later.

    RIP 2000 GTP

Congratulations. Those look like good tires.

That's what I ordered for my soon-to-be GXP.

    I'm still torn regarding sizes.

    What size(s) is/are you running?

i have a set of contiextremecontacts...they're not a great wearing tire. i put less than 5000mi on them and they're near the wear bars. i hope they last a little longer for you. i love the tires, great wet/dry traction, but the wear rating isn't what i expected for an all season performance tire.

Conti's handle great....thats it, nothing else, cause thats all they do. If you got 5k then your not doing to bad, anywhere after 10k they normally break belts and go out of round and shake the hell out of ya. IMO I wouldn't put a Conti on one of my cars if someone gave me 4 new tires. Stick with Yokohama, Michelin, and BFG and you wont have issues. Most others are not worth the money, and i've sold em all
F clean cars, I Ride Dirty!.....to hide the wicked body damage...
97 GP GTP- Mystic Teal, 218k, fixing the damage
91 Cherokee- 4 in. Lift, 31 Kumho M/T, tons of fun
03 Chevy S10- full bag setup on order, will drag frame in under a month

yea i think i'm going to do some michelin's or yokahama's next. so i'm not crazy if they're getting low tread life! haha. i got 2 of them on craigslist (brand new) and bought 2 more off discount tire. so i got all 4 tires for 400 bucks. 245/45/18 so i cant complain i guess.

ExtremeContacts are an older tire, we've been running them for years on my wife's PT and they don't wear great. IMO they passed their prime some time back.

I replaced all four with Dunlop SP60s which are far better in nasty weather conditions. They also eliminated a lot of radio static for some reason.

The ExtremeContact DWS is what OP and I are talking about. Those are a different animal from the standard ExtremeContacts.
DWS have an asymmetrical nondirectional tread, ExtremeContact have symmetrical directional tread. Now say that fast three times.

DWS is a new tire, ExtremeContacts have been around for several years.

Continental USA Car / Light Truck / SUV -Performance

BTW, I have four plus one 205.55.16 ExtremeContacts I'd like to sell. Tread from 7/32 to 10/32 IIRC. One is brand new. Guess this blurb belongs in the stop-n-shop department, just thought I'd mention it while we're talking Conti here.

yea i saw that they were different than mine, i got them new on craigslist from someone who never mounted them and tags still on them. so they made vast improvements with the new extremecontact dws? or is it basically the same compound with different tread pattern?

I would hope vast improvements since the old ExtremeContacts have been around a while. As others have noted, traction tends to be pretty good, wear not so good.

Check out the DWS tests at Tire Rack, they got some pretty impressive results.

Very different tread patterns. The new DWS can be rotated side to side, the old ExtremeContacs can't, they're directional.
