my wife and went on vacation and when we came back one of the other employees commandeered her work vehicle. the other employee refuses to give it back, and the boss is doing nothing. working for the city government is like going back to high school.

they left the vehicle parked in a public area, I'm thinking about putting some zip ties on the drive shaft so it makes lots of noise in the cab while driving down the road.

I would assume a business asset like that would have to be assigned to an individual. If the car is in an accident, I would think the city would go after your wife (since it is assigned to her)?

must be a union or someone to whine to and get it taken care of....... govt work is simple if you dont get results or the answer your looking for just keep going up the chain..... be careful it doesnt burn bridges you may regret later tho.

Don't you get involved in your wife's problems, let her sort things out properly.

Yea I wouldn't get involved.. Let her handle it in a adult manor.. No need for her to blow her lid and lose her job over something like this. Have her talk to her boss again.. If that doesn't work well then talk to someone higher. There's got to be more to the story.

My wife is a dept head so no union to get involved. If I was working full time she could just quit, but her income is what we are living on. If it isn't resolved we are going to go up the chain. The problem is that the problem starts at the top, so probably nothing will be done

Then I have to ask - by what authority is it "her" work vehicle? Is it explicitly part of her work agreement/contract, or is it just a little perquisite that developed over time?

when she started the job, the dept had the vehicle. now there is a new boss who is rearranging things. the most aggravating thing about the situation is that they made the change while we were out of town, so she had no input. the boss is all about "team work" but this situation is about as far from acting like a team as you can get.

Update: wife was fired from her job because of religious discrimination. my wife was put on administrative leave and a week later was fired. before or during this time, the supervisor was offered a job elsewhere, and that job offer was accepted, so my wife was fired, and her supervisor had full knowledge that she would be leaving the city and would not be in charge of my wife. The Mayor also knew my wifes supervisor was leaving. before leaving, a lady was hired to run the cities event center. this lady and the administrator stage an event that ended with the employee leaving the city and not returning. she remained employed for a few months, and then was paid out as a severance package. the severance was 50K.

I wish I could work someplace, leave and continue to collect a paycheck, and then be paid 50K to quit.

Stage an event? As in fake religious discrimination? This makes little sense. But good luck

So told your wife "we are firing you because of religious discrimination"? Now THAT would be a helluva lawsuit.

that's not likely, our attorney got 300,000 for someone who was out of work for a couple years. usually all you can get is a couple years worth of salary plus living expenses.

If that's what happened......you will win massive money. Tho I would also suggest stopping posting online about it. Until everything is done. Best of luck. Hope it turns out well for you.
