Guys, don't freak out so much. That article is 16 months old. GM still went through with the Camaro and G8 despite the issues because the projects were already so far along, and they're committed to these cars. The fewer Camaros and G8s GM sells, the less they hurt their CAFE ratings. Which, as was mentioned, the gas hogs are going to be a niche market and GM knows it.
What happened that the article was talking about was stuff like the RWD Zeta based Impala got canned. They decided their number one selling sedan as a RWD wouldn't get good enough mileage, so they made the sacrifice of sticking with FWD for the Impala.
A decision that upset a lot of people over at NAIOA, but like I said it's old news.
