So I put my SSC springs on the front of my car today. Didn't have time to do the back. Anyway, everything was going great until I went to put the strut back in place. Hand tightened the 3 top ones to hold it in place, did the 2 bolts that hold it onto the knuckle. Buttoned everything up and went to tighten the 3 nuts up top WITH A RATCHET, mind you not an impact, I got two of them done and the last bolt sheared off. It sheared off. It sheared the f**k off. Thank god autozone has these in stock. Went and bought a duralast one. Nearest autozone is 10 miles away. Lost some time doing that. Came back, got everything perfect, went to do the other side. Everything was going well until it came time to tighten the 3 nuts up tops. Got two of them done, did the last one (still using a ratchet mind you) and the last one sheared off. It sheared off. It sheared the f**k off! In the same spot as the other one. It's too late to go get a new one. Hopefully I can drive it tomorrow and not have any problems with it until I can pick up a new one. I figure as long as the weight of the car is on it, it won't come out.

But good god. Both in the front in the same spot? I fear what will happen when I do the rear tomorrow/thursday. I mean really.

you will be fine driving with out one of the nuts. I always blip them with my impact and never have broken one.

    Looks like you overtightened it.

I dont even own an impact and have broken bigger bolts than that.

I never even got it tightened down all the way. And it wasn't cross threaded seeing as how I got the bolt more that halfway down the stud before I met resistance. It's not really a huge problem, more like an inconvenience.

I would go back to autozone and buy 6 more to do the back... just replace them with new bolts and you won't have to worry about it.

Just another time where it pays to have extras that you could have returned, if not needed. But, I agree. Replace all of them.

Thing is, they all have less than 15,000 miles on them. I replaced them back in February when I got my bilsteins because I was getting a squeaking noise in the back and it turned out to be the strut mount.
