FYI, verizon uses sprint towers and vice versa. verizon service IS sprint service.
They use each other's towers for roaming. And if you roam say with Sprint on Verizon towers, now Sprint has to pay Verizon the data/voice that you used.

While this was the talk a while ago, the technologies are actually slightly different. So technically speaking no, Verizon LTE != Sprint WiMax. WiMax is actually losing the battle and Sprint is considering switching to LTE in the long term.
