ok so i've had the car for about a year and a half and so far i've needed to replave the battery, alternator, starter, and now my water pump is leaking. i also have a weird rattling noise coming from the engine and was told it was the torque converter by a fellow 3800 owner but who knows. and the struts need replacing which is understandable for a car now with 153k miles on it but still, i feel the need to b*tch.

Sounds like all maintenance, something to be expected after 150,000 miles.. Also all stuff that could have been looked at when the car was bought.

Yeah, you buy a new car if you dont want to worry about maintenance. But on older cars (mine being an 02) you'll have to replace parts as they wear out. Its just a part of a cars life.

the way i see it, once a car hits 100,000 miles every thing on the front of the motor will start to go bad, ive always taken care of my cars and trucks, my 97 Gmc 3500, i got new ran it to 175,000 in 5 years, by 100 grand every thing was replaced on the front of it, same thing with the 2003 Gmc 2500 HD got it new had it for 6 years and sold it with 106,000 on it, everything was replaced sept for the power steering pump, the 03 went through 3 clutch fans till the warranty ran out and i went to electric fans, witch f'in ruled!, new fan cost 150 bucks, electric fans 100 and worked much better, i got the pro comps for 25 each, 2 16 inch fans, had the thermostat to tune it to the temp u wanted it to run at, but it burnt up fast, ran a on/off switch and 2 new relays and all was good. its gonna happen so you will have to deal with it. and that don't include wheel bearing/hubs, on a 2500 hd they are 300 bucks in hand, i had them replaced 4 times under warranty and once by me, and my god the price for front end parts, the idler was 250 and the pitman arm was 300, in hand, tie rods were 40 for inners and 50 for outers, rotors cost 60 bucks a piece, pads were 60 a pair. HD parts hurt the wallet bad. the best was when i had 40 miles left on the warranty i had the trans rebuild 2 times, because the dealer sucked, 3 rd time they just put a brand new one in it, got a brand new transfer case, and rear end rebuild, the locker quit working and they replaced everything inside it. that was @ 80,000 miles. both of these trucks were REAL work trucks, lots of highway miles, and plowed snow every year i had them, for all of you guy who get snow, plowing will pay for all of your repairs as needed, i had a 1980 power wagon first, it bought the 97 and the 97 bought the 03, i made at least 15,000 cash every year, for 15 years so far, so if you got balls to stay up for 24 + hrs working like a dog, its all blood money, but its worth it. 100 bucks an hr will make you do it! used to say a gram of coke will make you a grand lol

    I know what its like...
    -New wiper fluid pump
    -New stabalizer bar
    -New starter
    -New ignition
    -New gasket covers
    -New battery
    -New power steering assembly
    -Oh yeah.....entire engine replacement

There is much more, I just do not feel like listing them because it would take way to long. And none of these include the repairs to the body or the interior. And all of this within a year and a half.

all i've really had to do with my car is rear sway bar links and fluid changes.

    Oh and the LIM gasket.

Everything else was my own doing.

And to the guy above me, whats a gasket cover?

are you a wise ass? this is the rant forum! no need to make paragraphs. i guess your cars just last for ever, and nothing needs replacement???????? or parts and labor are free for you. just take the info at hand and use it, or don't.

Maybe I am. No, its just much harder to read a block of thirty lines of text, than if you break it up a bit.
I don't know why you'd act like I'm saying my car lasts forever and nothing is a problem, I just made a comment on your writing. My car needs work just like everyone elses.

well you are 1/2 right, 15 lines of text, and you make no mention of your cars problems, or lack of, so it seems like u singled me out for no reason, at least i get my point across, unlike a lot of people who babble on and on like they have no clue what they are asking, or talking about.

i've owned at least 20 cars and do all my own work on them, so i've had grease up to my armpits over and over, pulled engines, trans, rears, AND REBUILT IT TOO, what ever needed to do be done I've done MYSELF. so if my rants can help someone, Im happy, i sure have learned a thing or 2 reading others peoples problems.

wow, look at this 3 paragraphs. or 2 paragraphs and a line of text you make the call...

yea i also replaced both front headlight bulbs which was easy and the right side fender (my mom backed into my car) so i got a fender from the junkyard and fixed it myself that was a b*tch. and i understand its an old car... its just frusturating seeing that i myself put more time and money and care into my car than anyone i go to school with and they're cars are fine and im usually the one who needs to fix something. and they're cars are 100k+ miles also

Part of it is how you drive your car. I did the most work to my car, by FARRR, at my school. Had a friend with an 1989 Trans AM GTA that thought it was the baddest thing around, and when I asked him what he did to it "well, i took it to this shop, and that shop, and they did this and that."

So some people never touch their cars, just pay other people, whereas most people on here go out and replace everything on their GP's themselves.

Think of it this way, everything that you've replaced/fixed saved you a **** ton.
