i just woke up from a half comatose/ hangover sleep only to be woken up by my half dramatic father who says all our cars were broken into. damn it. so i jump outta bed and drag my ass to the car only to find the most horrible scene in my ever exciting life.... someone stole my $4.00 in change...left everything else... lol. so total damage is 4 dollars and a possible hobo break-in. i looked at my dad then walked back in the house and threw up and now im here...lol. its funny too cuz this never happens here. theres like 200 people that live here and then the gas station... thats it. i guess ill be lockin it now... oh well.

I can't believe that in other parts of the country, people don't lock their cars on a regular basis.

Where i used to live I left the keys in the ignition half the time. We left the house unlocked when we left and at night as well. Hell it was nothing to leave my car running while I ran into the store as long as it wasn't gonna be very long.

I had the same thing, a while back, I have the 2-way alarm and tint, and I ALWAYS lock it, but we were un-sobering ourselves in the backyard, and I went for a beer run, and when I came back I had 3 cases of brew in my hand, andforgot to lock it when I put them down..... The one night I didnt lock it, sombody went thru my car threw my sh!t everywhere (papers and stuff) from the glovebox, and console. and they stole about $7 it was my carwash change. And they unhooked the wires on my sub box, but must have been scared off, because that was all they did. They left my 7" Pioneer, and amps, everything else.

All of our keys are usually in our cars overnight. I don't think my grandparents house has ever been locked in 20 years and we have left vehicles 20 miles from their house for a week or so and nothing happened. Keys are in every single vehicle out there, not just theirs. Granted they are 30 miles from the closest town but still.

I guess car and home locking is regionally based. I also just pictured the situation of the person who said they're on 17 acres of land. I don't even know what an acre looks like, I just know it's big.

I think you need to picture where I live to know why locking your car and home are so important.

Where I live, there's about 6 feet in between houses. My neighbor's dog keeps me awake at night, so if my alarm were to go off, it'd certainly wake someone up. I think that's why you're even less likely to see someone bust a window, because someone's bound to hear that happen too (although it does happen).

I also think that people in NY are just accustomed to being on high alert at all times. I'm not scared of where I live, but when I'm walking home from the train station alone, you bet I look behind me every couple of blocks - just to make sure I'm not being followed. I also never walk alone with my ipod in my ears, so I can hear everything going on.

We walk, talk and act FAST here and I think its a natural defense mechanism you develop. But its not like I'm packin heat or anything, LOL.

So, in conclusion: I lock my car and house EVERYTIME I leave it. Even if only for a minute. And that's just the extra bit of security I need.

There is no way I could live in an area like that. We have a 2 acre yard and its almost a bit too small. The biggest city in our state is around 170K people. I live like 7 miles from it and I am way too close to it.
