after changing the head gaskets on my GTP, i've decided that i will never again buy a FWD car or any car with a flipped motor.

seriously. after helping my stepbrother with his turbo'd 350 s10, i realized how easy it was to fix something that would've otherwise been so much more ridiculous on a 3800, with so much more working room and bolt accessibility.

GM, you get kudos for making a motor that will never die, but then you lose those kudos for making this motor one of the BIGGEST pain in the asses to work on. i can't stress this enough!

Head gaskets are a cakewalk...try removing the b!tch bolt. I'd rather do head swaps 5 times.

Well, from one '98 GTP owner to another, and a fellow Smith, I challenge your claim to having the most falling apart '98 GTP! Yeah, I know, it's nothing to brag about and it's certainly not a contest. Have you seen the pix I posted of what unchecked rust can do to one of these vehicles??!!
Do yourself a favor, if your brave enough, remove both rocker panel mouldings and see how solid your steel is.
I intend to bring mine back to 100% rot free and make her look better than she did new, at least on the outside.Fortunately I have my own body shop with everything I need. I just have to find enough inspiration.

no air tools + trying to lay down over the motor to reach the rear head bolts = priceless.

    seriously. ;]

oh no way. i'm too scared to take them off and find out. there's enough rust on the car as it is. haha

Sorry to have to tell you.. but anyone that complains about a 3800 is a *****.

I ***** a little about the W body versus H body stuff. But that's only because I could sit in an H body engine bay with the drivetrain.

I always remove and reinstall the backwards bolt by hand. Man up if you think it's bad.

Basically if it's tough then you need to step back and look at it from another angle.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

The room in our engine bays is cavernous compared to a Montana. You can barely get your hand back there.

Ive said it a million times and ill say it again, working on GM FWD engines take the upper engine mounts off jack it up let it roll backwards while letting the jack down, set parking brake and you will have tons of room in the back to work with. Car rolls backwards, engine tilts forward, set parking brake. Piece of cake try doing that with a RWD camaro good luck with that #8 plug and hope you dont have headers The bottom engine mounts and transmount arent solid take advantage of it.

Putting headers on them is more like the FWD world easier to do when you drop the front suspension and k member
