dude that bites. you got a scan gauge or anything? were you knocking at all? if coolant was in the oil and oil was in the coolant then it probably was a head gasket. if you would have been closer to home and not actually drove it home there may have been a possibility to save it, but that squeal makes me think the bearing went because the head gasket was already gone. i didnt notice any smoking when we were running or i would have said something to you. the last motor i had that spun a bearing did the high pitch squeal thing too then it started knocking at idle (KR) and i couldnt keep the car running for the life of me. it would die just cruising.

it just seems awkward that it would have been running fine up until that point. it is almost like the head gasket was gone as you were driving up. my pops always told me that cars run the best when they are on their last leg.
