Got it home tonight, I think I found the problem. There's a lot of seeped oil on the oil pan and trans pan. I noticed a bubbled part of the oil pan, and tapped it with a screw driver, popped a hole right through it. Looks like the pans rusted through and it was probably run dry. Is this a common problem on these newer motors?

Is $1200 a decent price on a drop in L32 with 99k on it?

    Thanks

Ehh that's the aluminum pan too :/

1200 is a very good price for those miles.

Definitely a steel pan, I'll snap some pics when I pull it apart.

Just like some 04 L26's having L36 rods and all 04 engines having plastic LIM gaskets, some 05, all after having metal?

How about the switch in 06 to metal water pump and front timing cover gaskets?

And the S/C gasket change in 06?

Bio: 1200 for an L32 isn't terrible. If you went L36 you'd have to add on the blower, heads, lim and gaskets/bolts to get there. Sure wouldn't be $900, but it'd be at least half that. Save $300 or spend that $300 and get much better rods.

I like the idea of picking up a fully assembled / drop in engine. I'm also considering just tossing another L26 in there, but I know I won't be happy with it after my last few cars worked so well. The $1200 motor is from Morad, so I'm pretty confident that it's going to be in good shape.

I'm planning on re-using the Trans, harness and PCM from the GT though. Does anyone have a cal sitting around for an L32 swap with the GT trans? I'm going to assume it's going to be about the same as a top swapped car would be.

    Thanks

For the record (granted Ed shipped me another motor right away), but I bought a long block from him with the front bank of pistons, chipped.

Still aparently ran fine according to them.

He made it right though with a motor going for twice the price sent to me for what I paid on the first one.

He couldn't believe it and neither could we.

Yeah, I know there's no guarantee that the motors perfect, but I trust that if something is bad, it'll be made right. I've known Ed since before he parted out his first Grand Prix... heh

Yeah, met Ed in Branson back in '08.

    Guy is hysterical.

Especially the stripper survival kit in the C6.

Only thing I'd seriously do is clean it up, paint it if you want, change all the top end gaskets regardless, remove the knock sensors and flush it out...etc.

Ok, new option just popped up.

Anyone ever do a CompG swap into a GT, Motor, Trans, PCM, Tapshift, ect... ???

There's a wrecked one locally that might be a good option for me.
