Right, just meant it helped me see what/where the heat sink was.

To disable the DRL's, unplug the diode or put a switch on the blue wire; like this.

To disable the "auto on" or "twilight" feature, remove the yellow wire from the DRL
module plug; like this. This method retains the park light flash for the security
    system and the "auto on"

There are some other methods that I've read and tried, but the above are what
worked for me on my '02 GT.

Factory headlights are 9007, fogs are 880.

    Anything else?

Ok, thank you sir.. exactly what I was looking for... the only other question I have then, is the fog light housing and possibilities of it melting... will 35W HID's melt the housing?

No problem. Can't help you on the housings, as I swapped to glass. My stockers were blocking more light than they were letting out.

In theory though, HID's run cooler than halogen, so I can't see how HID's could melt the housing. I know it has happened, but it doesn't happen very often. I'd wager improper installation or some other oddity.

I have an 02 GT and have replaced both my fogs and stock headlights with HID's. I used 35w kits on both and have yet to have any issues with fogs or headlamps, so melting shouldn't be an issue at all. My question is this, why would you want to turn off the auto-headlight feature? It won't hurt the ballasts, because they only turn on after, albeit a relatively short period of darkness, but never randomly, or flashes, both of which would be hard on the ballast. One you've completed the DRL diode disconnect and reprogram the computer not to flash the lights when you lock the car, the rest is plug and play, I have had mine for 2 years without any issues at all.
To reprogram the car so that you don't get the horn or light flash conformations when locking or unlocking the car, follow these steps:]

    A. Enter programming mode:
To program features, your vehicle must be in thisprogramming mode. Follow these steps:
    1. Turn the ignition key to LOCK or OFF.
    2. Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the instrumentpanel fuse block. See “Fuses and Circuit Breakers”in the Index.
    3. Turn the ignition key to ACCESSORY.
    4. Count the number of chimes you hear. You will hearup to four chimes, depending on vehicle content. See“Multifunction Alarm Locks and Lighting Choices”earlier in this section.
You can now program your choices. After programminga feature, you can exit the programming mode at
    any time.

    B. Change the setting:
    1. Follow the instructions for “Entering ProgrammingMode” listed previously.
    2. Press the LOCK button on the remote keylessentry transmitter.
    3. Count the number of chimes you hear. The numberof chimes tells you which mode the vehicle is set for.If you do not wish to change the current mode, youcan either exit the programming mode by followingthe instructions earlier in this section or program thenext feature available on your vehicle.
    4. Press LOCK on the remote keyless entry transmitteragain to change the current mode.
Repeat Step 4 until you hear the number of chimesthat matches the number of the mode you want.

    C. Exit Programming Mode:
To exit programming mode, turn the key fromACCESSORY to OFF and put the MALL PGM fuseback into the instrument panel fuse block.

Now that you have your car reprogrammed and the DRL diode pulled (or in your case broken) you should be good to go, and keep the auto headlights (because why not have them?)

OH, and why I'm thinking about it, I have a High/low kit on my 9007 bulbs that retracts the bulb a fraction of an inch to change the beam pattern. This isn't perfect but does help more than you would think having an improved high beam pattern. Don't know if you were interested in going that route, but I thought I would throw that out there in case you were wondering.
    Good Luck!

    Thx for the info chamilton...

The reason why I want to kill the auto feature is because the minute I put the key in the ignition and start to crank the car, the lights come on..therefore, not supplying full voltage while the car is cranking (meqaning my lights dim as I'm crankin the car) where as my SS it waits until the truck is in gear before the headlights come on.. and since my GP doesn't have a way to cycle the headlights off in the event one of the lights don't fire up (my headlight switch only does off, park, lights I can't turn off my lights at night unless I turn the car off), I just want to kill the feature so I can control it myself.. I've experienced hid's for years now, but this application is very different then my trailblazer/envoy platform I'm used too... for my SS I just did a DRL Killer, and was done with everything... not so simple for the GP lol

Why? Because I want my lights on when I say so, not when some sensor thinks it is dark, but I'm just at a stop light under the freeway overpass.

To reprogram the car so that you don't get the horn or light flash conformations when locking or unlocking the car, follow these steps:

I disabled the light flash this way, but after about two hours of running around, I programmed it back as I am so used to having the park light flash for the security system. Pulling one wire as I mentioned earlier was the next best thing, and easy peasy to do.

    UPDATE...

well i had some time after work today.. so i opened the driver side dash panel, exposing the heat sink and plug.. i unplugged the harness.. but i cant tell if it worked for drl's as my drl's dont work anyway... but when i went to turn the car on.. guess what.. AUTO HEADLIGHTS came on.. damnit!! lol so that doesnt solve that issue...

any other ideas on how to kill the auto headlights??? i have yet to read the owners manual to see if there is anything in there about perimeter lighting... and i would rather not want to go throught that programming mode explained earlier in the event i screw something up, just for a $40 set of HID's...

so any other suggestions out there?

I understand why you wouldn't want them on when your cranking. I guess I never thought about it because I use the parking break when I park, and the lights won't go on until I release the parking break, never even thought about it!

and BroncoBoy, I don't really care what your personal preference is. Just trying to help out when I can.

its all good bro... i dont mind the input... i did forget about the parking brake.. but would be a pain in the A$$ EVERY TIME i started the car...

for the trailblazer platform, there is a mod to disable auto headlights through our BCM's in under the rear seats, or at the dome sensor on our dash... we simply just add a switch with a resistor and BOOM.. auto headlights when we please lol.. wish it were that easy for the GP's

Yeah I understand, i got in the habit when I had a manual and I was told its not super for the transmission to sit on the parking gear so i just got in the habit. yeah I wish it was that easy, sometimes its a pain in the ass for sure, guess I just never really worry about it because the ballasts always seem to have enough time to warm up when they do turn on that i don't worry about hurting them, although sometimes I wish I had more control. ALSO, I am worried that even if you do figure out how to disable the auto headlights, that you will still get the flash without reprograming the computer not to flash when you unlock and relock the car. I wouldn't worry too much about the process, I cut and pasted directly from the factory manual, if I forgot something, please let me know.

ok... i havent read my manual yet... so ill check that out... so you have HID's and you use your key fob activating the perimeter lighting... how long have you had your HID's in while doing this?? i know its not good for ballasts.. but have you had any problems?

You asked, I answered. Only difference is that I left the attitude at the login screen.

Blazer, you can also try this: Headlamp Control. It didn't work on my car though.

I guess maybe I'm confused. I disabled both the horn blast and the headlight block to signal the lock and unlock for the car using the fob. I did this as soon as I installed my HID's and have had them for over two years without issue. Sorry I guess I didn't understand that "perimeter lighting". My bad.

its all good bro... i guess its partly my fault as im used to my SS... we call it perimeter lighting because when we hit the key fob and the lights blink, they stay on.. sooo.. perimeter lighting lol...
