    NO need to remove the metal knee gaurd, there is a cardboard panel that need to be removed though, just use a long extension to get the nuts, I believe there 13mm, maybe 1/2", I cant remember. Just run the nuts to the end of the threads so the column does not fall down.

    Cardboard panel? I have the lower cover removed, down by the footwell, above the pedals. It's the plastic part that has the insulation attached to the end of it - interior light plugs into it, as well. But I don't see a cardboard panel so far.
