I purchased a clarion VRX745 video,cd, mp3 player for my 98 grand prix gtp, my question is after installing the unit, will the steering wheel controls still function. also would you reccomend just hard wiring the unit or should I be looking at getting a custom wirng harness that will just clip in the unit. any or all advice will be much appreciated. thanks

You will need to buy an adapter if IIRC but I am not sure exactly what website everyone gets it from but I am sure someone will chime in. (And I'm sure this will be moved to the audio section). And if this is a true intro welcome to the forum.

You will probably need an adapter, look at your model on crutchfield.com to find it. Also I would recommend getting the wiring harness, but most online stores include that with your purchase should you go that route.

Also if you ever have time to kill crutchfield has some great articles to read about audio stuff. Great for beginners.

You will need an interface like this for the steering wheel controls
Amazon.com: Brand New Pac Swi-jack Factory Steering Wheel Control Interface Kit for Alpine, Kenwood, Jvc, or Clarion **This Allows You to Replace Your Factory Radio and Still Use Your Factiry Steering Wheel Remote**: Electronics
Just a warning, if youre doing it yourself and it is your first time, it is a pain in tha arse to program. It will take a few times to program correctly. And definitely get a wiring harness for the radio. Especially on an expensive unit, so if you do get rid of the car you can just take it out and put the factory back in.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.
