You can't just stay at stock boost levels, you need to stay out of boost to not knock. If it's going to take a while I would put the stock pulley back on.

I will look for a tuner but it will have to be used (and probably hard to find). So if one doesnt show up for awhile ill just get an overkill or 3800performance pcm.

If i cant get all of these mods on for a month, should i put the 3.8 back on or just drive it below 3/4 throttle?

    Thanks
if your going to be looking at getting a dhp powrtuner, you are going to have to get one used as they are discontinued. there is also tunercat, but i dont know much about them and i think theres a hell of a lot more people with pt and hpt that can offer help.

IMO, i would put the 3.8 back on. you COULD just stay out of boost, but since you dont have a boost gauge, you dont really know when your in it. remember that the 3.4 is going to give boost at a lower throttle % than the stock one will. as the pcm is stock, it doest go into PE until 35-45 % (depending on rpm, the lower the rpm the higher the throttle % has to be before going into pe).

pe stands for power enrichment. your pcm will always adjust fuel to run at a 14.7 air fuel ratio (afr). one of the things that happens when the pcm goes into power enrichment mode is the commanded afr is lowered, thus adding fuel. fuel is going to help with kr. so, with boost coming on sooner (and more of it) the pcm still isnt going to add that extra fuel until the throttle position reaches those percentages which you could be seeing ~5 or 6 psi already. which is going to cause kr from being lean. making sense?? these figures may not be exact, im just trying to paint you somewhat of a picture.

what you can do with a tuner is adjust this to lower the TPS to go into pe when you're in boost. this is also done in the other files, but with a tuner you can adjust it custom to your vehicle. like the stock pcm, aftermarket ones are written to be somewhat universal. keeping in mind all weather conditions from the coldest to the hottest and different elevations. custom tunes are always better. also as said above, if you are not comfortable with the tuning idea, maybe a canned pcm would be best for now, and you could go somewhere later and pay for a tune. i was just saying that you could get a "canned file" if you had a powrtuner by downloading the dhp file for free.

Have there actually been cases of peoples motors blowing with a 3.4, intake and dp?

I know you are all helping me, however from my father's experience with his car running a worse setup than I, in the same condition for 80k miles i think i can get away with 100 miles in less than 1/2 throttle.

Im not sure if a tuner or off the shelf tune would be best for me.
I feel like i would just download the dhp file, then leave it alone in fear of messing something up.

Is the reason i cannot stay below stock boost levels because it will get into boost at lower rpm?

    thanks

Cars, aftermarket brands and drivers are different, it would be hard to find evidence of what you are looking for because your mods are so unique. Your basically asking if someone with the same exact DP, same intake, same amount of miles, same driving conditions and same driver had their car blow up because of a 3.4" pulley. I'm just naming 5 variables when in reality there are probably a hundred.

I know you are all helping me, however from my father's experience with his car running a worse setup than I, in the same condition for 80k miles i think i can get away with 100 miles in less than 1/2 throttle.
Every car is different, you will hear that all the time on here. You are practicing harm reduction methods driving easily and infrequently but we cant guarantee it wont harm your car at the very least.

Get a mod-specific mail order tune ($100) if you don't want to spend time learning to tune. Cheep, easy but not optimal. Get a tuner if you have ~$400 and time to learn how to use it.

Is the reason i cannot stay below stock boost levels because it will get into boost at lower rpm?

    thanks
I know about this in theory so someone correct me if im wrong... Yes you are correct. It is not exactly how much boost you are getting it is when you are getting that boost. For example your stock pcm is tuned to give the engine x amount of fuel at 3,000 rpms and xPSI boost. If you put a smaller pulley you will be inducing more air, at 3k rpms with the same amount of fuel. Same amount of fuel and more air will make your AFR lean. Running too lean is harmful to your vehicle.

What i was asking is if people have blown motors with my amount of flow mods. Doesnt really matter i guess.

So the tune should fix the a/f issue and get rid of some knock by adding fuel?

Also do rocker arms just help to move more air/fuel? And should i eventually get them if i stay 3.4?

    Thanks.

if you drop plug heat ranges you should be able to the 3.4 if you have the proper pcm setup supporting your mods...There is no way to tell for sure how much KR you have unless you scan. But others have done this on those mods and have had little KR.

    Anyone...from now on...EVER.

GET A WAY TO SCAN BEFORE DROPPING A PULLEY SIZE. Whether you have supporting mods or not it doesn't matter...you need to make sure you can scan. I didn't have a scan tool when I installed my 3.5" pulley...I had a CAI/T-Stat/Plugs/Wires/3" DP/3" Exhaust/PEM's...AND...I still toasted my motor...that was on a ZZP PCM though.

Your car will thank you and so will your wallet when your not chucking pistons or bending rods. Why is it so hard to understand that dropping a pulley isn't the BEST THING TO DO to these cars...people need to READ...and stop asking all these simple questions that can be solved by looking through a few old threads or reading the sticky's at the top of each section.

    *end rant.

Go ahead and keep asking noob questions now.

Sorry guys, i just had some questions which i thought were somewhat specific and called for a thread.

I did not realize there were so many threads talking about power enrichment and all these things i did not quite understand.

    Thanks for those who helped

00gpgtp, i actually got alot out of your posts and this whole thread.

DHP is the safest mail order tune you can get. its actually a decent tune, too.
