Just try to make sure that you do everything in the right order and do it right the first time. All the info you'll need is on these forums, might take time to find it though. But do it right the first time and you won't have to worry about coming back here asking questions because you'll be too busy driving your new properly running topswapped Grand Prix =P

    It's a W body.

    Something will fail.

For me, the ICM died on the first time out trying to have it tuned.

Couple months later, the balancer **** the bed.

Yes, but it may be less likely that somethinf fails right away from an error if everything is done right.
I know things mess up, but I learned from camming and replacing my engine that things can go much smoother if the human doesn't make as many errors =P
Lol I made a lot haha

I'm not talking about installer error. I'm talking about general vehicle wear and the condition of the parts being installed.

You can't predict an ICM failure. Arguably the balance I should have caught, but then again, I hadn't heard of a 3800 balancer failure until I had to replace it then talked to slick about it. So I slapped it on without giving it much a look other than the teeth for the crank sensor, the grooves for the belts and the centre bore and the slot for the locating pin (crank cam?).

My point simply is, one does not simply enjoy a 17 year old car that has been modified with used parts, and expect it to be reliable.

Yeah guys and gals, our cars are "old" now.

That is true. Our cars are old. And understandably, can't know an ICM is going to fail

But if you just want a little more power I would just run a 4.0 pully and headers and see if it knocks. That should be about equal to a stock GTP shouldnt it people who know way more than me.

I am running a l26 with a ported blower stock pulley SD headers and a zzp od harmonic balancer and I have 0 KR on my car.

    What did I do?

I think you meant crank key.

Had a factory balancer die, then a dorman balancer die IIRC. Hence the ZZP unit.

That's the thing, the crank key.

No it was the stock balancer, then a cheepo from some random parts site exploded, then the dorman ripped after like a year.
