i am able to read the new pcm just fine. i tried to do a partial write of the my old pcm file that i read last night... it came up with an message saying it was unknown that i would need to do a full or auto write. so then i tried to do a full write it failed at step 19 of 25 when it was waiting for the pcm to reboot. it then came up with another box asking to repair or exit. i choose the option for repair. the car still runs but i cant seem to write to the pcm. is it an issue with the pt or something with the car? ive had the car tuned before with no issue. what am i over looking?

I don't quite understand... You are using the powertuner for the first time on your car and it won't write to that pcm, but it will read it and you can save it as a .bin? How many pcm's are you working with or are you talking about multiple .bin files?

Whats the error code that came up?

I'd say your pcm isnt toast so far, just a communication issue. I had this happen to me on a 03 regal but I just quit out of it and tried again and it worked. If you have any accessories on or open doors it may mess with communications, I'd never do a full write as they are the most likely to toast your pcm. Partial writes are the way to go!

i know i fried the first ... what i was trying to do with the second pcm was put in what my old pcm had since that was tuned already. I found out i was either a. not paying attention as i found 2 files in my folder with the same name so i might've chosen the wrong file, or b. my volts might've been too low. i now recall it saying that the volts at the time were at 11.5. either way i was able to do 2 different partial writes with no issue and was able to scan the car. so i dont know what happened maybe what they say is 3's a charm?

I remember charles saying VOLTAGE plays a big factor in successful writes...its the quickest way to brick a PCM....if the pcm will still start and run the car it may be recoverable with an off board (desk/benchtop) setup...check the DHP forum for more information on it. I have never made one so I cant really help you, but if you don't want to make one someone on there that has made one would probably be willing to try and recover the PCM back to functioning state for you....I remember charles explained why an off board setup might still be able to recover a bricked pcm when you cant do it in the vehicle...but for the life of me I cant remember what he said about it.
