ive got my hands on a DHP and Bills drop box. and for the life of me i cant get this thing to register the cable.

i think i need some step by step direction lol

im using a laptop running win 7, (32 bit) deleted all the new versions of .net framework, installed 1.1, the mcda 2.8, keyspand driver for win 7 & 8, its on com port 4. only ports 3 and 4 even try to load the cable. and pretty much d/l'ed the whole DHP folder form Bills drop box, un zipped and installed most of it. not sure on a few of them files tho, says remover in the exe, not sure i want that?

ive tried to change the compatibility in DHP to every thing listed, nothing worked.

im surprise i haven't thrown the laptop yet.

    i won!!!

turns out i had to go into device manger and set the speed to the slower speed of 56,000 and then in dhp. synced right up.

now i need to figure out how to set stuff to not report.

Can you change the speed the DH reads the computer??

I've seen it on HPT where reading it in high speed can fail, but switching to low speed reading makes it work.

thats how its set up, slow speed on the comm ports, when it was on hi speed it refused to register the cable.

You can't even set a read/write speed until the cable is synced.
I believe your talking about baud rate which should be set to 57,600 if your firmware is 2.0 or older and 115,200 if you have the 2.2 or newer firmware.
Once the cable has been synced you can read your pcm or flash a new bin if you have one already, the DHP automatically defaults to low speed read/write and should be left that way.
I leave the laptop plugged in to an ac outlet even if it's battery is at full charge when reading/writing just to be on the safe side along with taking measures to ensure your car battery is sitting at more than 11.5v and preferably without anything draining battery power at this time.
I use an old POS IBM thinkpad that has Windows 2000 on it...lol Cheap and easy as it still has a serial port so no need to deal with keyspan/drivers.
Before you read your PCM you should run the "PCM Information" option first which is located under the menu title "PCM Flash" then your ready to read your bin and if I was you I would get a read on your stock bin then save and then edit a copy of that bin with the adjustments you want to make then let the DHP decide wether you need to do a full or partial write by setting the read/write to auto...less flash time makes for less time any errors or accidents can take place as far as losing power to your laptop or having your vehicle battery voltage drop too low.
    Good Luck Scotty!

Did you go into device manager and right click the device and update driver via loading specific from bills thumbdrive?

its a keyspan usb, so i got the driver off their web site.

problem now is the damn pc keeps crashing while trying to read my pcm.

had a deleting codes lesson with Bill this morning, so i got a new bin ready to flash now, but i cant read yet.

im off to a friends to try a battery charger and the laptop plugged in. see if that helps. if not ill try another pc.

Dont try it plugged in, ive heard horror storys of it bricking the pcm. If anything see if you can change the power setting while battery is active to performance and do all your windows updates and like i said if you havent tried updating the drivers via the device manager instead of installing them i would try that.

Also right click on the program and run it in windows xp mode and also change is to run as administrator and see if either of those help.

This is a problem with HPT. There is something power/ground related with using an inverter or plugging the laptop in via the lighter sockets that can fry an HPT. DHP doesn't appear to share the issue.

DHP also takes a lot longer to read/write along with pestering you about car voltage etc unless you change settings. DHP and HPT are both fussy in their own ways.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
