I'm having what's basically an in car tune and I was wondering how big of a difference is 93 gonna make on the L36 once the timing is set up for it? I have a mildly ported stock front manifold. A ported lower intake manifold and an FWI.

What are guys' experiences? Also how about fuel economy?

    Thanks

*EDIT* Also, is it possible to do a CASE learn with HPT?

Yes a case learn can be done with HPT.

93 is better than 87 for helping with KR. You fuel mileage will not really change by using a higher grade fuel.

What about like a butt dyno difference between the two?

Octane doesn't increase HP. Octane is only a knock preventer.

You can make more power up to 27* of timing.

After that, run lower and lower octane. It'll apparently drive better.

Look at the ethanol content in your fuel rather than the octane rating.

And a NA tune is pointless unless you're unhappy with the transmission settings.

I got a 91 incar tune from overkill and I felt way more from the tune then any other mods I have done so far.

Unfortunately you won't gain too much power with a 93 octane tune on the L36. Maybe 5-10whp though.
The tune would be more effective at changing shift points/settings and bumping cruise timing for slightly better mileage.
Also deleting any codes you may not need anymore.

Yes HPT does case learns, and so does DHP.

When I was NA I did both a 87 and 93 tune. The engine did not respond to additional timing at all. My DOHC LQ1 loved 93 and I was able to add lots more timing with it. My 14.9 track time was on 87! I also had intake, HV3, and headers. Just stick to 87 and save the $3-5 per fill up towards other mods.

To the average person there isn't much of a difference. I feel that it pulls a little harder in the mid range. Will said he was able to add a couple degrees on the 93. Whether there is a true difference or it is just my butt dyno, I guess I'll never know. I'm currently running on the 87 but I can switch at any time as long as I have my laptop(which is almost always.) NA is cool and all and I guess for an NA she boogies pretty good considering it's an H-body. But I purchased a turbo kit a couple weeks ago. So that's happening this Spring most likely.

Thanks. Can't wait for the trollz. I'm gonna try and self tune the turbo set up. Just going for low boost until I can build the trans over summer sometime.

But to conclude. Most people say NA tunes aren't worth it. I don't know. Overkill did an amazing job for me. Even on 87 it is spunkier than it used to be. Gets about 2 MPGs more. And the trans is a new animal. So much smoother and more refined feel. I'd say go for it, if anyone were asking me.
