The tuner gives you ALL the possibilities you could ever want when tuning your Grand Prix...whereas a mail order tune (DHP, ZZP, Intense, Overkill, etc.) do things such as basic changes (shift points, line pressure increase, 40 mph skip shift, no speed limiter, fan turn on, etc.)

The only difference from the tuner is the price and the vast amounts of knowledge you need for it to work correctly without messing up your car...I would love to learn it, but I would be afraid of messing something up IMO...hence why I leave it to the professionals

ok so I saw the thread from wiki about tuning.
for a novice to start with a tuner what would be the best way to start that.
dont want to spend the money for a new pcm and a tuner if the same can be done from my hands, or someone that would help me really understand this stuff when I get one.
    ( hint-hint) Ok. crew.

Go to HPTuners.com >> Performance At Your Fingertips and read read read. None of it will make sense at all. This is normal. Thats the best thing you can do before you get a tuner. Or anything really. And that is to know and understand what your dealing with. As far as someone to help you when you get a tuner im here for you just to let ya know. Im no pro, but in reality no one really is. I know more than the basics as a handfull of other people on GPF also do. The only part I don't know a whole lot about is tuning with a wideband. But i'll be getting into that soon because i should have had one a long time ago.Any questions you have after reading up on hpt feel free to pm me. And you should be reading for weeks not days to start understanding the tuning aspect.

It's called a Wideband 02 sensor. All factory cars come with a narrow band wich is only accurate at an air/fuel ratio of 14.7. Well, in the tuning world an A/F ratio of 14.7 is not always the ideal Ratio to run. Especially if your cammed, boosted or intercooled. Anyway back on track, All a wideband is used for is to verify what the o2's are at....860's 920's ect are examples of what the o2's can be at. The narrowband o2 sensor works for some and has worked for me so far. But it is far from the ideal thing to have. This is a common experienced problem with the narrowband and people realize this after they get their wideband,We'll use o2's in the example of around 890-910 because at about 70-90 degrees is the ideal numbers for me to run taking into consideration my mods.-

    Narrowband o2's will read 890
    Wideband o2's will read 870

Boom you no longer have an engine anymore because you ran to lean. The lower the o2's the less fuel you have. And FYI stock o2's on a gtp are around 960's.

As for your second question im not quite sure. I mean the way of tuning doesen't really change. It's just what you use to tune. You can tune idle with a wide band for instance a lot better than wen your using a narrow band.

Anything else i can help you with?
