Need a good tune for my upcoming topswap. What is better intense or overkill? Can't afford to have a bad tune blow my engine.

Intense. Mainly because of their customer service. And also the quality of their tunes.

i agree... intense will get it to you very fast and they are very easy to get a hold of by both phone and email.

It is too bad Overkill has been hard to get a hold of lately, but I recommend trying him if your patient. I was very happy with mine and it held me over until I started dabbling in tuning. His newest version is editable now, so you would be able to use it as a basis for further tuning if you decide to get a tuner later.

On Intense, if the bin I saw was any indication of their current tunes (and it is probably not IDK) I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Hardly anything is changed. Slight timing bump at WOT and adding 3% to WOT fueling (still only 12.1) basically. And more importantly, they left in the dangerous stock torque abuse 15.9 air fuel ratio target in the torque management. That is a surefire way to blow pistons. Hopefully they have a better tune now but you couldn't pay me to put that in my car. Putting in a PCM that has questionable reputation like Intense and ZZP (for killing trannies), I wouldn't trust one until I'd read it into a tuner and gone over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure that I'm not going to ruin my car. But if you had access to a tuner to check and knew what to look for what would be the point of a canned tune? That doesn't leave many options though. The DHP PCMs were pretty good but they are out of business so you'd have to get a used one.

That is just my opinion which may not be based on current info. Take it for what it is worth.

Alright, trying to get as much input on this as possible as I can't have a blown engine or tranny because this is my DD.

ZZP doesn't kill tranny's...they grenade motors. All I ever heard about Intense was in the beginning they had no idea how to tune and then they started cracking up the shifts too high and hard and ended up killing transmissions.

Get a DHP PCM. End of story. I am going to email 3800 Performance to see if this whole "3800 Performance sells ZZP PCM's" thing is real or not. If they DO sell DHP's (which they say they are a vendor of them), then I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat. BEST mail order tune ever for a 3800 powered car.

Haven't checked out DHP yet, but I haven't heard a single bad thing yet about overkill so I guess I'd go with them over intense.

It's not that Will does not know how to tune. But it's very hard getting a hold of him. Shipping takes a long time since it is comming from canada. And it's even hard to get a hold of him after you have received your PCM.

    That's all we are saying.

Yeah a DHP was actually one of the first things I looked into when I first got my GP, maybe I'll check em out again.
So it would be between DHP and overkill I think...not gunna chance intense if they've got a bad rep. I'll deal with overkill's customer service if I know I'm getting a good product.

I'll say from experience in looking at all of the tunes...sometimes in certain cars, the little things matter the most. Meaning, you don't have to completely change every table in the tune to make a car run good. Will goes over everything based on what your mods are specifically. DHP and INTENSE goes for the generic safe tune for just about everybody.

That's all I'm trying to say.

I hear fast katt who is local does some good custom tunes might send him a PM. If not I think I'm going with overkill, that's what you were getting at right?
