o2s arent super important, but it is nice to see them.

knock, timing, fuel trims, rpm, MAF, and MAP are what i really look at..

True. But I got into the low 12's with the narrowband. But that was kind of pushing it.

well... technically any knock is not reasonable, unless it's false which you will get, but as you tune you'll start to realize whether it's false knock or not. As for the tuning process you're gonna hit knock every now and then.. and when Josh and I were tuning my car back in october, we had 1 instance where if I even touched the gas pedal I was hitting red...
ended up pulling over on the highway, haha

Bio is right, most people keep it 5* as their limit. You're gonna see a lot of little 1* 2* 3* spurts at first. After you slowly dial in your tables it starts to disappear and you'll get your occasional false hits.

Well yes, but I think what DWosik was referring to was how much is "safe" knock that the car can withstand while tuning. Obviously as you continue to tune you want to wipe out the knock.

    Personally I don't go above 3*. If I hit 4* OR 5* I slow down.

I'm guessing this is your VE tune DWosik?

if I'm not mistaken, you can just upgrade to the 2.2 version through download off hptuners website. I bought my HPT software which was version 2.2 when I got it so I've never done it. Check HPTuners.com >> Performance At Your Fingertips and see if that is possible. I may be completely wrong! So make sure to check!

Also you asked what a VE tune is. Since you're just starting out use this.

Gary's HP Tuners Basic Tuning 101

Should explain a lot to you and give you a better understanding.

Ouch... I didn't have it that bad. I occasionally hit above 5* but was very rare.

Echoing what others have said here, getting a WideBand O2 setup installed would be something you should make a priority. But having said that, if you can't get one, then watch your B1S1 O2 sensor output voltage at WOT. It should stay above 0.890 volts (which according to MY wideband O2 is about 11.8:1 AFR; but remember NBO2's are not very accurate at measuring AFR's much outside of the 14.7:1 threshold).

I like to see KR stay below 3 deg at WOT.

I also like to see STFT and LTFT's within a +/- 8% window of operation. The closer to 0%, the better -- but not necessary.
