    Superchips Cortex 2950-GM Vehicles - auto parts - by owner - vehicle automotive sale

    Has anyone ever used one of these? If so, what was your experience?

    98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

    Refer me to a "real runer" who will do the job for less than $150 in Cantral Florida, and you're on. This is my daily driver, not my toy, and I don't have funds to experiment.

    you can buy your own tuner and tune it your self, htp, dhp if you can find one. or mail order one from zzp or intense. pretty sure they are both under $200.

    a hptuners will run ya 400 these days with 2 credits to unlock your pcm.

    ZZPerformance 1.0 PCM | 3800 Grand Prix PCM | GM PCM Tuning Looks like 175 to me.


    rules are if you want to play you need to pay. maybe the best mod for you now is the right foot mod. just drive it nice. save up some more.

    If your goal is fuel mileage don't bother with any canned tune. I've had several different 3800 cars and they got basically the same mileage wether it was a stock tune, DHP 1.0 tune, or the Intense tune I have now. It's also never mattered on mods for me. My car stock got the same mileage as it did with a plog/dp, 1.9 rockers and a 3.4". A real DHP/HPT tune actually changing the fuel tables is the only way you'll see any mileage difference if any. Keep your foot out of it if you want better mileage. A canned tune may give you marginally more power but it'd never be enough to notice
    2001 Regal GS, PLOG, 3" DP, 1.9's/L76 springs. 21* of timing on a 3.4"

    have you bothered to check if its even compatible? I think it only works on the GP GXP (V8) and doesn't work with any 3800 GP

    GTP is already a poor man's raze kar... And like noted, if you want to play, you have to pay!

    Rules for modding, no exceptions!
    There are three things you can do/experience, and it is represented in a simple formula...

    Fast/Reliable/Cheap

    Place your finger over which one you want and you'll see what you're left with.

    Want fast? It won't be cheap/reliable...
    Want reliable? It won't be fast/cheap...
    Want cheap? It won't be fast/reliable...

    Or just know you can only have 2 of the three at any one time, use the examples in reverse... If you want fast/reliable, it isn't cheap!

    Those are the universal laws, many have tried to escape them unsuccessfully.

    Add to this your are looking at an old platform where everything that has been thought of has been done already. Take heed the suggestions. You don't have $ but want to throw it away on garbage. Good idea! Save your money, save some more and get what works, you'll be much more satisfied. Those chips basically tell the engine it's 10* outside so they dump fuel. Light as we just unplug your IAT sensor and allow the ECM to default temps. Again, more placebo than anything.

    So what, exactly, makes Superchips garbage and Overkill not garbage? Both are just ECM modifications.

    Also, I don't have a GTP anymore, I have a GXP.

    The cortex is by no means junk. It's basically the same as a canned tune for these cars, but you have the option of personalizing a few things on your own.

    If you're expecting a noticable increase in power and a jump in fuel economy, you're going to be disappointed. It's a waste of money in my opinion, for a very small gain.

    Thank you for the rational answer, but of course, i still have a question.

    One of the posters above who insulted the Cortex bragged about his Overkill. Also a canned tune. Once again, what's the difference?

    Overkill was a guy that did custom tuning on these cars. But it was still essentially just a canned tune. I wouldn't say it's any better than the cortex and vice versa. Overkill quit tuning the v6 cars. I'm not sure if he still does v8's or not.

    Purchasing your own tuner is still the better option, imo. Besides, you probably have a transmission rebuild to save up for driving a GXP.

    If that was done before it came to you, priority should be on removing displacement on demand.

    The GXP aftermarket is small to put it lightly. It's entirely possible it will get expensive rather quickly and probably still be slower and less reliable then a GTP.
