So I went and looked at an impala with a buddy for him. The guy had a few other cars as well. One that caught my eye was a white regal gs..idk which year but prob 97-04 or w.e they are.
It was white with grey leather, black looked like 16 or 17 inch rims, good tires, 119k, sunroof and supercharged. Tinted and blacked out. I didnt start it up nor check it out too long.
But I did ask how much and he said 3400, so I asked if hes negotiable and he said cash talks. So I looked up kbb and private party is at 3400 and retail is a little over 5. I got his name and number and said id check it out this next week. I cant find a clist posting gor it however and only have 2 crappy pictures with his sun cheesing in it lol. Anyways, how much should I offer if its nice, and what should I specifically look for?
It didnt look like it had rust or anything..the gas cap wasnt rusting or bubbling..do the rear strut towers and rockers rust like 97-03 gps? What else should be of concern?
I want a winter car and something to have for them just in case moments, n if I can get it cheap and its reliable, I will. Thanks!

That's looks super clean and for the price idk if I could pass it up. My buddy had one. The hazard spots on his were the rockers where completely gone. The tranny lines where rusted but that looks garage kept and mint. His had 180k on it too original plugs and coils. Basically original everything and ran like a champ. He got rid of it cause rust repair would have just been too much.

Thanks, yeah it looks super clean, like I said tho I havent checked it out fully yet though. Wanted to wait n see what price people thought was good. So ill check the rockers n the strut towers to make sure and underbody for rust. Make sure theres no ticks or slipping of gears.

A little backround on the guy is, it ended up being the guy I went with, he knew the owner and doesnt seem like a bad guy. Hes a mechanic and he buys impounded cars and auction cars and fixes em up n flips them. So I will have to see if its been in accidents or what. I should have an early work day tomorrow and ita on the way home from work. I just wanted to see what price people had thought before I made an offer.

Lol come on bro, then I shouod buy it for asking price if you think its worth that much..haha.

What do you think a good price to get it for redcompg? 3400 is kbb n we all know nothing goes for kbb price. Im gonna come in low n would prob settle at a price if it ended up checking out okay, but what should that price be?

$2500-2700 if everything checks out. It's goin to be a winter car so you don't want some money pit that's going to need a bunch of work done to it.

I'd offer $2k to start lol

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Id be so happy for around 2200 but even for 2500 or so but Id maybe top it at 2700. Anything less tho id definitely take. I hope its in as good of shape as the rear looks. I didnt pop the hood or anything..wish I would have taken the time to do so. But tomorrow I will and let everyone know how it goes. Thanks again.

    Haha

What do you guys think about this one? Ik 162k is pushing it, especially if I could spend a g more n buy the regal for sure..but it looks decent. It has been on clist for a few months n his starting price was 3900. Haha. Not heavily modded but a little. Like I said the mileage scares me a little though.

the year and miles have a lot to do with what its worth.

brake lines and fuel lines rust up, rockers do rust out on them sometimes, ( at least you can see them) as well as the rear strut towers. nothing like the GP's though.

check to see if the lim gaskets have been done also. every little thing you find wrong adds up to money off the asking price.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

Youre right, I forgot about the lim gaskets too, thanks man, and you have a regal yes? Good stuff

What do you mean the year matters too? And he said 119k on the motor. But ill def get the exact year.

well a 04 would be worth more then a 97 just by its age. im not 100% sure but that supercharged emblem on the trunk lid, im thinking that started in 2000.

as far as the regal vs the gp, it rides about the same, but is more comfy inside for sure, seats are way better. vs a 97-03 gp anyways, ive yet to sit in or drive a 04+

in the end its the same car with different body on it. same maint issues, lim, hubs, and so on.

Okay, I gotcha. N yeah I know its all the same but the body, just like a monte or impala too. Thats why id kinda go for one, especially with the supercharger too. All the 97-03 gtps are rusted bad or too much around here for decent miles. As long as more comfy n all that it sounds good. They have alo the same options as far as heated seats and sunroof too.
I didnt know if that supercharged emblem was put on or factory either. Ill read up some for sure.

not only "a" heated seat, but both front seats get heat, or you get no heat at all.

the sun roof is a moon roof, the back pops up some, or it slides back, has a sun shade to slide forward so the sun dont beat down on you. ( i never use mine)

not sure if its 00 or 01 where the back seats started to fold down in a 60/40 split like a 04 up gp.

Haha nice, thanks for the extra info..I hope theyd be heated since theyre leather. And it had the moonroof then. Hopefully sliding because I always use mine. But w.e im pumped to look at it now n im hoping its clean n legit. I just hope he'd go down a bit more than usual on price.

So I got lucky and went into work only to get called off after two hours. Just got back from looking at the regal..
so the body has 138k, the engine was replaced with a 119k engine from a rolled gs. And then the guys buddy redid the mileage or switched clusters or dic with the 119k one. The only thing wrong is the egr will need to be replaced..it throws a p0403 code for egr solenoid, the cat was cut off and strait piped. There is absolutely no rust on the rear struts and just a little starting on the rear door rockers. The seats and interior is kind of beat up though for sure. And the rims on it are from a 90s monte and painted black. Other than that though it drove smooth with no noises or pulling, shifting seemed fine. It's a lot slower than mine lol. But I got the price to only 2600. Now idk if I should jump on it or just wait n look for a cheaper gtp.
    Heres some more pics..

Rear rockers are like this on both

    Interior kind of busted lol

Everything is clean besides the interior, but I'm sure I could find something to do with it, I've never seen many or checked em out to compare. But for this price and with how clean compared to others from Clist, this one looks much better. I'm torn on it, idk if I'd rather have a gtp or this. Gotta make sure my money is right first too.
