The 4L60 is my 2000 Silverado put up with a lot of abuse from me. Considering that if you hit up the truck forums it's 4L80 or it's junk in their eyes, that 60 treated me right and ...I'm maybe a tad abusive.

4L60e in stock form can only handle about 400-440 ftlbs of tq. The 2-3 gear tend to eat themselves. They can be built up but still max out around 530-550 ftlbs of tq, which sounds like a lot but really isn't.
Most track guys will use Turbo 350, 400 or 700R4. Reason being is no need for a stand alone computer to run the transmission if you're not using the ECM.

Yeah, they're okay. I think they're probably similar to the 4t65e in the way that, some seem to go forever, and some die too soon. Also, it's not always directly related to how they're treated. For a stock application... A 60e is perfectly fine. If you're going to be making any kind of decent power, or plan to treat is poorly, might as well just pony up for an 80e.

If/when I swap my '84 K10, I'll be keeping the stock 700r4. That way I don't have to mess around with the 4wd stuff, and the speedo will still work. Plus it was recently rebuilt.

Just sold the front end and hood for $200. That makes the wheels, trans core and sway bar mounts stone cold free. Well, I gave my buddy $20 for gas so there's that. Still calling that a win.

I had the 4L60 go out in my Silverado the freak DAY I got the truck... Thats what I get for helping Brandon move.... LOL... Had it rebuilt by a buddy of mine with some upgrades and works fine ever since... Pretty much the only thing on the truck I can now count on to NOT fail...

Hey Brandon, I had a set of those on my 76 el Camino briefly... third gen IROC Camaro wheels? Thats all beside the point, what I want to say just in case is that my set had two different offsets. Fronts and rears. On my junk they would only fit on the wrong end if I recall correctly. Not saying thats what you have but its something to be aware of. I suggest checking all four mounted on the truck before scoring tires. Just a heads-up.

My brother in law and I recently went half in on a '96 S10 Blazer. Straight body, decent interior, fair paint and a wore out trans. Got it for a steal of a price. Plan is for me to rebuild the trans, then put some miles on it. Once I feel confident in my workmanship, I will start building 60e's on the side. So if you want to see a 4L60e rebuild, stick around.

You are correct. The '91 and '92 IROC Camaros came with a very similar looking 16" x 8" wheel as the '96-'00 SS S-10's. Those have a different offset front and rear, different part numbers. However, the S-10 SS wheels are the same offset / same part number on all four corners. Definitely an easy mistake to make. Thanks for lookin' out man!

More than a touch. When I fire up that 4-1/2" Makita grinder, all bets are off! This is my first and probably only body mod, but so far I like it. I'm basically Chip Foose now.
I'm not opposed to louvers, just not sure how I would do that with my current skill set and tools. The reason it's shaped that way is because that's where the structural support isn't. Laid down some 3/4" masking tape along the rib and let the grinder eat!
My kid says it looks like a ninja.

it does look like a pair of eyes in a mask. needs a mouth lol
to do louvers you would need to take the skin off the frame, its a job. then theres a a press and die's to press them in. it cuts and presses the hood up.
a whole crap load of different types being done.

Make sure you buy the special torx bit for the pump if you want to open it up. Stripping one of those bolts out usually doesn’t end well.
Sorry Sven. I tried to quote original content, but it didn't' work. I hope you see this... I downloaded the 4L60e Update Handbook, now I see what you were talking about. The bellhousing bolts use a "Torx Plus" bit. Not the standard Torx bit. Just clicked the Buy I Now on an OTC Torx Plus 50 TP50 driver. Should be good there. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks Bill. That means a lot coming from you. Yeah, not super worried about rain, but monsoon season is coming up soon. I have a roll of stretch wrap behind the seat, just incase...

Since I used to work at a trans shop, I figured I’d give the heads up on it. It’s a simple transmission...the only other special tool is a drum press but some ingenuity can get around that.

Not sure why it won't let me quote you directly. Anyhow...
From what I've researched, the only special tool should be the turbine shaft seal installer / resizing tool. (?)
Here's what I'm working with.
Hopefully I can make a couple dollars here and there building 60e's to help fund this project.

i just clicked "quote" at the bottom of your last post, and it all carried over like normal for me.

Seems like people either love it or hate it. It's pretty polarizing. Truth be told though, yours is the only negative feedback I've received. Here, or anywhere else. Everyone seems to dig it. I get where you're coming from. As a body guy, I assume you have a certain respect for a class "A" panel, but you have to look at it from my point of view... This truck is a toy. A rolling experiment. I cut the hood just to see if it made a difference, and it DID. At highway speeds in 100° ambient temps, the coolant temp was reduced by about 20°. That brings it down to thermostat temperature.
I hesitate to type this for fear of sounding like i'm on a soapbox, but let's put this into perspective. I cut a $50 hood on a $200 truck. Isn't that what old school hot rodding is/was all about? Expressing your vision on your own ride? Imagine if George Barris stopped customizing after someone called his first creation "bizarre." *Long pause*
At the end of the day, I like it. My boys think it's awesome, and their opinion means the most to me.
