That, OR I was looking at some vacuum pump / gauge sets from Ebay. $100 for a 3.5 CFM pump and gauge set. Even if I only use it once or twice to get the S10 going, it'll still be worth the price.

    New knock sensors are in.

Would have gone a lot quicker if the top of the sensor hadn't spun inside the body. Ended up taking the valley cover plate off to grab the outside of the sensor. Couple days of driving with the code turned back on and no check engine light so far. I'm calling that a win. Though I did right by buying AC Delco sensors originally. Looks like I found a shady seller on Amazon. Fail. That was a $60 lesson. Went with Delphi this time.

My next set of wheels will come from the junkyard or craigslist. I don't have "new wheel" money.

Automotive AC is not in my wheelhouse... Yet. So, I decided to do some research. I guess if you leave the receiver/dryer open to the atmosphere too long it will pick up moisture? Which wreaks havoc on the desiccant inside the unit, which will then send crud through the system and clog the orifice tube. I decided, for the cost of the components, it would be best to throw some new parts at it.

Receiver/dryer, pag oil, and orifice tube(s). $25 for that whole pile. R/D came with new o-rings, so that's nice. S10 calls for PAG 100, and the Silverado (engine donor) calls for PAG 46. I went with PAG 46 figuring the compressor is the most important part of the system. Got the kind with UV dye already in it because, I can be almost certain it will leak somewhere eventually if not right away. Two orifice tubes because they are only $2 each, so why not have a spare.

Probably order the pump and gauges on Friday when the paycheck drops.

If I had a guaranteed buyer for every one I built, I'd do one a month.

Don't do anybody favors because you know them from here, heck half down won't cover a parts kit, will it? I crated up the set of seats out of my 40th and sent them to a fellow member in MI, and that has been nothing but a fiasco. People get big dreams off tax returns but then the money runs out on their overly enthusiastic plans and favors are quickly forgotten. Trust no one!

I absolutely love the fact that this truck is used as a truck, not as a garage queen like most projects end up.

Instead of doing all that work and just letting it sit, it's being used and enjoyed as it should.

It ain't that bad yet but thanks, geos. Bellevue. I don't like having to make people mad to get them to handle their responsibilities but thats where I'm at. This thread was a poor place for me to bring that up but yeah, with transmissions theres value so it would require additional precautions. I took none.

Parts kit? Sure. Those aren't really expensive. Just seals, steels and clutches. Bout a hundred and a half. Nothing in a (stock) 4t65e is terribly expensive. It's just the sheer number of components that need to be replaced. Nickel and dime on a bigger scale. $35 here, $100 there. Chain(s), input piston, rear planet, shims, solenoids...

Well I'll be honest... I don't do a ton of driving, but everywhere I go I take this truck. This is why I must get the AC working soon!

I was thinking of differential and torque converter plus the stuff you said. Thought there was several hundred there.

I second this. Plus with kids quads in the back of what looks could be a 4 cylinder truck, cops won't think it's the burnout culprit...

The diffy is usually okay, but yes, another couple hundred for the torque convertor.

Unless they notice the rubber stuck to it.

Well it's been one year to the day since I started this thread. Quite a journey. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice and encouragement!

    Plenty more to come!
