As the title says, which system?? I have been tossing the idea of either or both for the past few months. I want either system for the ability to watch HD movies and it seems that Blu-Ray discs will be more heavily favored in the long run. I have always been a PS fan and never owned an X-box so I like the capability of back-playing older games on the new system, well the 80 gig model anyways which is what I would get if I go that route. It seems the 360 has online gaming hands down but I dont know how much I would use it. Again who knows I may end up with both lol. My PS2 sits over 300 days a year if that tells you have much I play games and want this equally or more for the HD movie player. I am also concerned about down the road for the system as well and have had my PS2 for over 7 years now with no trouble and there are still games out for it readily. All feedback greatly appreciated!

I'd like to have a PS3, but the price IMO is ridiculous. Not saying it's not worth it, but that's money that can be well spent in my car. LOL

I have read a lot of articles online about graphics comparisons of the same games and same exact screenshots and the 360 seemed to show more detail and was commented on for every sight I found this, but one game writer said the 360 has been around longer and has an easier platform to work with than the PS3, that and its still new to the market in that aspect. I remember when the PS2 came out and all I read about in magazines was software guys complaining about how difficult it was to write games for, 8 years later the graphics are a long shot from where they started! I guess I see the same to hold true for the PS3 and why long term is important also. Thanks for your insight! I havent seen the 160 version, just the 30/60 gig from last year and the newer 40/80 gig models

OK there are advantages and disadvantages to both... duh.

PS3- 80gb hard drive, blue ray discs, internet capability, plays music, pictures, video files etc, total PS1, PS2 playback (Xbox only select games).

Xbox- Games are up to 1080p (ps3 only 720) HD player additions,

I've not decided which is better. I have a PS3, my brother has an Xbox, I want to combine both, but that will never happen

the problem with the comparison, is no one has yet gotten the 1080 out of the xbox, one of the magazines I read tried it and using tests could only muster a 720p. That is also kind of a minor issue anyway as the scalers in both are cheap, and need bypassed anyway, and if watching on a set smaller than 46 inches and farther than 6 feet away you can't see the difference 99% of the time. Another issue with teh xbox is xbox live sucks. I am on another forum where 5 out of 10 people in a thread have had their accounts wiped clean (aka all saved game data erased)

I have a 360 Elite and a 60gb PS3. Both are sweet. I own more games for the 360 for the exact reason you stated. Most multi-platform games look better and run more smoothly on the 360, but I didn't want to miss out on PS3 exclusives like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, and SOCOM, plus I wanted to get Unreal Tournament early. You can't really tell the difference between PS3 and 360 versions, though, unless you look at them side by side...the Ps3 versions still look great.

If you want a console for movies, too, then definitely go with a PS3. Blu-Ray is better supported and it's built into the machine.

As far as online gameplay goes, the 360 does win that battle. Playstation Network is free, though, so that's a plus if you don't plan on using it a ton. As far as I'm concerned, though, you're missing out on the best part of current-gen consoles if you don't go online. Call of Duty 4, for example...the single player campaign was only 5-6 hours, but you could spend countless hours in the online multiplayer and it's TONS of fun. Online play really extends the replay value.

Either way I've spent way too much money on video games. LOL

PS3 doesn't support true 1080p, either, it's all upscaled. I've never had any problems with my Live account, nor has anyone else I know. ::shrug::

Online is the make or break for me.

I've had live since the First day it was out, and have never touched anything else for gaming besides my classics on the 64/sega/nes and the odd RTS on the comp once every few months

If I were to buy one, I'd get the PS3. Built-in Blu-Ray player kinda does it for me there. Plus, in all it's bulky goodness, I kinda think the black looks cool, even though it'd be sitting next to my Wii.

seeing i have all 3 systems the ps3 has way better graphics! Blue ray dvd/game disc reader that kills two birds w/ one stone! but if you dont have a HD TV you will never see the difference anyway..Xbox Live is way better than the Ps3 online gaming... Xbox has more games and is way easier for online playing and chating and gaming! wii Rocks!

as for lines of resolution Xbox 360 Cannot Do a True 1080i or 1080p! Ps3 can do 1080p all day long even tho the discs are written in 720p b/c of blue ray technology! blue ray game will soon be written in 1080p Cant wait!

Xbox cant! b/c the signal source is 720i or 480p the disc them selves... they achieve 1080i or 1080p by using upconverters processors =( its not a true 1080i thats why no matter what the Ps3 will look atleast twice as good as the Xbox 360 on a full 1080p TV via DLP LCD Plasma

my buddy has a PS3 and really likes it. I've stopped buying video games systems. My PS2 basically sits around and collects dust.

my friends got the Wii and the original 60gb PS3. And with the exception of the new smash bros that hasn't come out yet. We always play the PS3, its more grow up. Never played the the 360 so I can't compare it.

    I vote PS3 anyways!!

well i own neither but considering you want it mainly for the movies i wold go with the ps3 because it would be a stand alone unit for that whereas to watch movies on the xbox you need to buy another player type thing

Dave, this may swing you to the PS3 side.

Looks like Blue-ray will win the DVD format war

Good find Brian! I did read about that a few days ago also but not the story to go with it. I have been thinking more towards a PS3. Sure the Xbox 360 has more games but it has been out a bit longer too. The PS2 had a slow start but look at it now 8 years later, just finally being replaced. I expect the PS3 to do the same thing a few years down the road, and having a blu-ray player built in is definately a plus as if I went the 360 route I would have $350 in the machine and another $170-180 in an HD player for it. That already costs more than the 80gig PS3, and with that model I can back play my older games where I cant do that with the 360 since I own no Xbox games. I really like the 360 online support but not sure how often I would use it to justify it being the main reason I buy one, but then again who knows I may end up with both like I said earlier and have two systems sitting around collecting dust lol.
