I was looking at some pics from the recent Goodguys meet in Colorado and saw the brown 65 GTO among them. Remember that one? The new owners call it Sugar Shack (thats an old song title) which may be a word play partially referencing the shop. Anyway, it gives me grins to see old jobs pop up at big shows. I only did a few things on that one but it makes me proud. Looking at car show pics is now like opening cracker jacks for me. The moral of the story is...
Lots of you GPF'ers are developing useful skills playing with your GPs making them sharp and silly fast. There are jobs out there where you can use them to blow minds. Do what you enjoy, do it best, and joy will come from it. Theres no reason you can't get involved in working on badass cars if you want to. Its a great high.

This is my junk still rotting at work. Motivational speeches accepted. New kid at work can probably spank my GTP with his four banger but I just don't care much. Would you?

It drove me nuts having to modify or install toys on other people's cars while my project sat collecting dust. I just had to leave and push myself to get back on my build. Idk how you do it lol

I guess bodywork is different in that way. I do have a modified car that I did 15 years ago and it still does what I want. So there's no project for me to push like that. That dusty engine is really just a ready replacement for my 236K miles GTP. And normally if I make my car's nice they will be promptly destroyed by careless drivers. But its weird because this is the first job I've had where I can't really work on mine at the shop.

I put hidden hinges on that door yesterday but there's not enough interest here to continue posting pics. Chopping up good 1930s steel just feels wrong anyway.

I like seeing these pics... After I'm done with my service obligation I'm looking to find a job just like this, even if I have to start with being the guy who walks around with a push broom after everyone else makes their messes. Lol

I often feel the same way, but then I really like the finished products and don't feel as bad about it. Of course I am not doing the chopping, I am just following along.

when i was a kid my friends uncle George has a 55 belair, (green) 3 on the tree, straight 6 that he bought from sears when the original engine burnt up way back when lol
damn thing was built like a tank. real metal was used on them cars.

Yeah the metal is real but man its disappointing when you see how they are made. For example, there is no support for the quarter panel. It does not attach to the wheelhouse. Nothing to the doors but skin, a biker could drive right into the interior. We'll stick the wood wheels back on the Camaro for ya.

Heres the 1" thin wall bracing I whipped up. For the base, I halved some square tube to make an angle bracket, curved to fit the wheelhouse and attached with 4 plug welds. Dadgum its sturdy. The door might be a little floppier than I'd like. Gonna sleep on whether or not I should address that as an issue. I'll make cuts on the wood and put back as much as possible or make new. But theres one side welded and still fitting!

I love how you can see each layer of paint, really tells to the history of each car and what it's been through.
The work done looks great, as always, and it always teaches me something new every time I see how you did something, or how things got braced together to be strong, but not full on Mad Max. Lol

OH NO! My fellow bodyman broke his leg Friday. Let his Harley footpeg touch in a curve and spilled him and his daughter. She got road rash, he got that plus both bones sticking out near the ankle and blood loss galore. Things were going so well at the shop. Boss is gone next week. This is craptastic! Its the guy who is probably the only one in the world who knows just how I suffered from my broken bones. Now this. Dad gummit.
