Meh, I went through the water cooler phase. Never really worked out, my graphics card leaked. Didn't cause any problems other than overheating since it was distilled water, but then Algae came into play...on like 6 different computers I installed it on, lol.

I ain't lookin to mash ANYbody's toes but has there ever been an advertising claim that wasn't true, like the 747 ad? Pontiac advertised wide track for decades but it was only a word, no meaning. For example.

The AWD comment I'll have to approach gently in an effort to NOT offend. Seriously, no lie and hope to die. I'm a little shocked. Even the old lady drivers around here know AWD is what they don't want because 4WD gets them where they have to be and spankin new AWD fails, to their dismay. Verifiable on paved or dirt, fact in this human's world. Doesn't "break" for them, but fails to perform as advertised and paid for. And like their old 4WD rig still will, in their arthritic but manual -shifting hands. AWD makes them eternally angry with the salesperson who blew smoke up their ass to unload em and get a check. Imagine buying a new AWD and can't get home on thin-iced pavement. I'd be furious, and thats how it affects them. Stuck with something useless to the purpose it was purchased for, and by the time you find out, it ain't returnable so yer hooked.

These ladies cling dearly to anything old enough to drive all four at once if needed. Normally the situation plays out this way- "They wouldn't give me enough for my old one so I hung onto it. Good thing I did because I can't get up my driveway with this new liar-liar mobile!' I know this because I'm the guy who gets to nurse their capable junkers for a pork chop now and then. Jamming 3 plugs in one hole and chuckin sandbags with tedonitis is well... foot work, on plugs at least lol. Anyway-

AWD fail is common knowledge here and heck they sell 2WD trucks at these dealers unlike up north. I thought everybody at least up there knew. Of course the insult after the injury is always "Now I have to get another set of big expensive tires for the old one that cost as much as it's worth!" plus after 20K of gravel roads any odd-sized juicy tire like would be on an AWD is chewed. Then buying tires becomes a constant burden the man never stops hearing about or saving towards because theres eight now.

Old ladies don't like like turning around on steep, slippery places in your neighborhood either, I'd venture. Its often a matter of getting essentials like food and fuel in, and AWD fails. No de-bunking necessary on that statement, hell ask anybody but Bill. I'd be glad to connect you with one of these people, they are pure fire and brimstone about it. I can't even speak on it, know nothing of it because there hasn't been anywhere I had to be that I could not reach with a pegleg 70's intermediate car. Thats what I know, plus what the sermons contained that I recieved when making no distinction between the two drive systems in the company of "AWD burn" victims. Had there been a pulpit nearby it would have been thumped some, its a hot issue for many. A way to sell Tinkertoys for Lincoln Log prices, buyer be-damned.

The "Bill's car won't break"... c'mon now, its an automobile. I could break it with my right foot. Or oh wait, collide with it because that would be forum funny.

    It's a 20 footer for sure.

But hey, if it goes like stink and makes for a good time driving it who really cares. It's too the point where small things don't matter anymore.

That, yep. It has no other real purpose than as a sanity preservation tool and thats how I use it. I try to let it eat all 3 gears uphill at WOT every other weekend or so that I feel like it, less often in winter. Regularly but never for long, because bearings and bores do wear and once it quits, thats probably it. So we preserve one another for the time being. Its strong medicine for this soul and theres no substitute. I've tried to sell it but old Grand Prix buyers want bone stock with owner's manual still fresh and it ain't that! It will probably be crushed after me and I will mourn if it goes first. I can fade mama jokes but don't step on the RWD GP!

I said I was taking a break didn't I? Been awhile since I had it out after midnite but its N/A gobbling weather as in fog in the valleys so vrum.

Truer words were never spoken. Long as it ain't a "tar far"!

It was a fairly mellow cruise just now. I go country but my exhaust is old enough to drive to school by itself. If that thing were a dude it would be Dick Clark, man. From the drivin chair at night anyway. Many years, few changes. I am gonna dash cam myself soon so 1080p yay. Trouble is nobody is on me about improving it and I loaf. Theres a better set of barely used iron heads in my way and I'd rather trip.

To fill in the previous post, I'll say these things of it- traded for 69 GP at the turn of the century. Had to wait for new job til Feb of '00 and used that time to weed out running issues but mostly to redo susp bushings in poly, and steering linkage. Stripped and brush primed, mudded and temp primed the body thru 00 and 01 at home. It was blue primer in 01 then in early 02 black primer just before paint and buff by me. 2 yrs fun then hail. 2 more and new hood and hail again. Thats why its all busted up where theres filler or seams. Except that left qtr, it was wadded beyond my ability at the time I was a painter so thick mud then but have donor car with good now.

Its full of pull rod holes at every corner. The hoods all rust at top rear. Needed floor n trunk patch when I got it. I was in early phases of the welding curve then and did some on it- rocker mldg holes, sail trim, etc. But there were 2K pucky spots, see bubbles now. Trunk lock shave cracked but is welded, go fig. Quality refinish paint is designed to last 5-7 years max with normal exposure and on a good foundation.

The color is my own mix and due to prevailing clouds for 2 weeks solid, I missed my own mark but seem to have hit everyone elses. They like it. I didn't want the red cast in the sun but it is interesting to look at. No, I don't swing that way but it turned out too purple. Mostly Pthalo blue with an odd violet pearl and one strong dark other toner I like. Has not faded and was easy to re-mix and butt match and that is a base I did touch. Its Autobase Plus over Colorbuild with Lesonal clear and their epoxy between metal and mud. Strong sun sees a brick red mass tone on it so dey aks if its chamelion sometimes. I've definitely gotten my transportation out of it and become attached though. Would enjoy seeing build #2 wid shif in flo because as a show car it stands out and maybe given another chance I could nail my color vision.

My sig pic is from 05 and those tires are still on it, maybe needed air 4 or 5 times since. Can't complain but can whore. Ha. And ah, heavy rain cometh now, cue pillow finally. GPeace

    Matt...

I'm planning on putting Quattro to the test and see if the Germans up in the hills of Europe knew what they had built. As for loving a 4WD, I love a good truck with at least a LSD in the rear. Because these days no one makes a real 4WD. Go spin one in the front and one of the rears and tell me that's 4wd, I'll shove that thing right back into the dealer showroom. POS.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

We get beer creds? Woot! Ha, I'd be cred-broke but your shelf cries "enough!"

Bill give a report but a shiny side up one. Meaning don't call from the ditch to do so. I reckon theres a proper vehicle for every purpose including yours and mine. Insert Turn, turn, turn song ref here. There are times I wished for a pegleg so the rear would not swing out going slow on peaked roads with black ice. Every road-legal vehicle is a series of compromises.

Not now, maybe never. A situation I can't imagine would have to happen first so no idea. Life support only for the 69.
