Ive been having trouble this whole winter wither my tires.

Between 0 - 35 my tires will sping if I give it gas(W/ 50% S/C). I have Goodyear Essurance tires. I dont think there anything fancy but I just cant seem to stop slipping. Mind you the weather is 15 outside with mildly damp to almost clear roads. Obviously there is some moisture that is greatly helping out with this situation.

Anyone have this same problem? It really gets annoying since the car is FWD and its hard to turn with no traction

BTW how good (in general) are the tires I mentioned?

I don't have these ones, but my friend likes them. Check out the reviews for this tire on tirerack.com: Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

Make sure that your tire pressures are right, either an over inflated or under inflated tire could reduce traction on pavement (check links below). Also, check your alignment; a misaligned front end can cause a loss of traction.

    Over inflated tire: http://www.nitrogentiremachine.com/image05.jpg

    Under inflated tire: http://www.nitrogentiremachine.com/image06.jpg

Looking at the pics above, the chalk that is visible means that part of the tire is not making contact with the road. I'm sure you can see how a loss of traction could happen.

Or, it could be the loose nut behind the wheel. If you still spin easily between 0 and 35 and everything is right with your car that means it's to slippery to use that much throttle.

I have friends that hate those tires......

I bought Michelin X-ice snow tires for winter. I liked my Bridgestone Blizzaks better... but these offer a LOT of grip.

goodyears in general suck, they are on the GP but only because I cant afford a new set of tires and xmas for 2 kids. Had those exact tires on my 97 gutlass, even with a 3.1 they spun from 0-30ish @ 32 psi.

if you are using the "T" rated version, than you have a VERY nice all-season tire.
dont expect dry weather traction out of anything when its 15*F out and damp....

    i am running 225/60R16 falken ze912
i have zero issues with slipping, and its not even a full all-season tire. its been sub 20's for the last week with freezing rain/snow here, saint louis doesent exactly have forgiving winters either =]

i think you just need to calm it down a little bit.. =]
there is a simple answer to your problem...less throttle..

on another note, last year i ran my "W" rated yokohama 245/45R18's all threw the winter and had zero issues even then.

we have some BFG The Advantage Plus on the GP that are all bald on the inside edge, and the trac only came on once pulling into traffic at over 5mph.. its usually only taking off... and you have the TSC dont you??

and Goodyears are crappy tires... we had some GY Eagle GS' on the 97 cutlass, and they all warped and bubbled on the tread.. then we had two Egale LS to replace them, and they did the same thing... bought some brand new GY from Wal-Mart a wile back for it, and they would wear completely after less than 5k miles.. after new tie rods and an alignment, got some new ones for like $.25 each under warranty, and they did the same thing.. gave up and got some Khumos...

i do a lot of tires and overall goodyear hasnt made a very good car tire, there pickup tires are very good in my opinion. i have eagle ls2's on my GTP and they suck in the winter and dont last as long as they should for 150 a pop. when in doubt go kumho, cheap and good. or if your loaded go michelin, never seen a problem with them. not the most sporty tread design but they wear well and the x-ice is the best snow tire around from what ive seen.

Falken are good.. just stay away from Good Year and Westlake Goodride.. they are a cheep Chinese tire.. had them on my Integra. no grip, too soft, ride along the sidewall when cornering, no snow traction whatsoever, and i had them bald and two with wires showing after 14k...
