Just so you know how it happens in NYS, because I live in NYS.
You have a court date, go to it. The DA should be there calling people in a side room, this being a first offense, they will say something like "how does parking on pavement sound?" either the full fine size or $100 (Coma (governor) is ****ing around right now, saying we aren't getting enough money from this kind of stuff, since his $2 Billion deal to siphon off NYSIF fell through). Either way you go before the judge, he bangs a gavel and you should walk out of there $100-$200 lighter but no points (which is key because if you fight this, they will hit you HARD, and you will end up $2,000 broker over 3 years for the insurance going up). If they don't plead you down, because they are having a bad day or whatever, pay it and then sign up for one of the Defensive Driver classes that all over this state and online, pay $30-50, show the county you did it, so the points disappear. I've only had 2 tickets ever, one in NYS where I got the plea deal and the Florida where they hit me up the ass for it and I had to do the Class thing.
