You cannot, absolutely, positively, no matter how much practice, shift faster than a automatic transmission can.

Okay, after looking at the thread, he keeps mentioning G6 axles so I'll assume he used the G6's transmission.

    FGP F40 gear ratios:

    1 - 3.77
    2 - 2.04
    3 - 1.32
    4 - 0.95
    5 - 0.76
    6 - 0.62
    R - 3.54

    FDR - 3.55

Now, with the FDR included, and added for comparison to the 4T65E's

4T65E's gear ratios (FDR ratio included)

    1 - 9.607
    2 - 5.132
    3 - 3.29
    4 - 1.316
    R - 7.830

    F40's

    1 - 13.384
    2 - 7.242
    3 - 4.686
    4 - 3.373
    5 - 2.698
    6 - 2.201
    R - 12.567

Anyone noticing anything? The overdrive gear on the 4T65E has a better ratio (including the FDR) than the newer 6-speed. Less gas mileage while cruising with the 6-speed. Also, looking at the progression through the gears once you hit 4th you'd be better off with the 4T65E staying in 3rd. However, the extremely aggressive first and second would be helpful from a dig.

My opinion is that a side by side comparison of this transmission is and the 4T65E is that it'll pull harder in the first couple gears than the 4T65E did in first, but it'll fall off as you have to shift more times to retain the same ratio the 4T65E did.

All this aside, while researching this transmission I came across it's max torque. 295lb-ft. So, it'll stand up to most stock 3800s but modded cars will tear it up. Of course, GM says the 4T65E was only designed to handle up to 280lb-ft and we know its limits.

prime example. 4 mins in fox body mustang 5 speed. he lost MAYBE 2 inchs on his shift. a manual can be right there with an auto, problew a hair slower BUT manuals got better gear ratios so it makes up for it.

manual and auto stock car the manual is faster in the 1/4

BUT only about 5% of people can shift like this. and its not as easy as hit the clutch and slam gears. takes damn good skills.

^^^Yes, I did use the G6 tranny. I should edit my first post I'm not sure what is up with those numbers, but my engine RPM's are lower with the F40 than with a 4T65e while cruising down the highway. All round the acceleration is better, no matter what gear I am in. It no longer falls on its face at 80, it just starts a downward slope around 90.

I actually have a custom axle ordered, and I will hopefully have it by next weekend. I will post more videos.

Simple answer to this is both have their advantages and disadvantages as well as alot depends on the driver and their ability to go through the gears.

I also make no claims of being an incredibly fast shifter, but I was taking it easy in that video. Once I get my axle, I'll see what I can do.

Yea no math and such can determine it. There is such a simple answer. Everything considered it all still depends primarily on the driver. Reaction time, speed, knowledge, rpm, all that is whats gonna make the difference not the transmission alone.

Although the trans does have some effect its not really the primary factor.

It isn't your imagination. Everyone who hears it says it is one of the best sounding 3800's. I actually do have a small leak up front, but it sounded better before the leak. I have a 2.5" downpipe with a Dynomax cat, no Resonator, and stock piping back to 2.25" Hooker Aerochamber mufflers.
