.40's not that much better, get some premium JHP's for the 9mm and call it a day. -- It's not about the caliber if you can make it count when the sh*t hits the fan.

Premium JHP's in a .40 is still superior to a 9mm. It's all a matter of opinion, my research convinces me the .40 has an advantage. If you can't make it count it doesn't matter, you're down. If you can I'd rather do it with a .40.
Guns? Yeah, I have several.....dozen of them. ;-)
Some of my favorites:
Springfield XD40 carry gun
Taurus Tracker .22LR 7 shot revolver
Old Marlin 336 30-30 Lever hunting rifle (hope to kill some deer with it this year)
Springfield M1 Garand Service Grade

Reminds me of JROTC. Loved drills with an m1 rifle.
i have to pick up something for myself. It's on my list of **** that has to get done but never does.
although once I get called in to basic training for corrections I will be using an AR-15 and I believe a 40. I don't know how much time they give you to shoot. Hopefully I can go in and hit the range on a regular basis. If not ill have to buy my own.
Like mentioned you want to be comfortable with what you are carrying, yet there's something to be said about not carrying something that if you ever have to use it, lands you in jail based on a jury thinks you had Dirty Harry .357 Magnum complex therefore were out looking to use it.
This is why I have a 9, it's plenty of protection for me. A smaller gun like a .22 will give most people enough of a sting to realize you have plenty more shots, a .38 or 9mm had enough punch to ensure the guy thinks twice before wanting to say "may I have another" and well.. a .40/10mm are close to the line where the jury begins to look at you funny.
No matter though, it's a huge responsibility pointing a gun at a person, one I'm hoping to never need to do.
I am looking around for a different shotgun though. Want something I can go hunting with that won't try and beat me down in the process.
I would have to vote Winchester 1300 FTW!! Just as much of an aftermarket as the 870, not loose and sloppy like the mossberg. They don't call it a speed pump for nothing... I currently have 5 of them 4 in 12ga and 1 in 20ga for the wife. I've gotten them as cheap as $143 and most I paid was $250 for my defender version(short barrel, extra mag capacity)
Mossberg 535, uses the 500 receiver, accepts multiple barrels rifled ect. I turkey hunt skeet and can at my private range repeatedly hit a person size (100 gallon propane tank) target at 170 yards with a slug iron sights and the rifled barrel.
I personally like my 535 better than my rem 870
I picked mine up for 200 "used" unfired multiple chokes rifled barrel cleaning kit.
A determined adversary will often require at least two to the thoracic cavity of at least 9mm or .40.
this is my Waffenfabrik Mauser C96. From my research, it was made between 1915 and 1918. My Great-grandpa got it from Germany during WWII
I had one of those what caliber is that?
i believe its a 7.63
