I think we will leave it alone, the next change we will put on a Bosch filter. Anyone know how good they are?

cool because I really ;ike the xg's
20 000km on synthetic oil and i use factory oil filter.
12,500 miles on one oil change?
Meh.
When i had my GP we went like 10,000 Miles and it said to change oil but we went an extra 7,000 more and the guy that did the oil change said it was good to go that much over since it was synthetic
Hey im bumping this mainly because i wanted to know between these oils which are the best and if they all are good then i would like to know. So which one of these are good and worth the price?
Fully synthetic oil: Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Castrol Edge. All synthetic and are suv take 5w-20, and i want to use the best cause my bro and i will try to do an oil change our selfs. if we can do it then it would be great so we can change oil ourselves and save that much money.
Also we bought a K&N Oil filter for the change since it was buy 1 get 1 free and its the K&N performance gold filter. Are they really good and aer these just as good if i want to use these oil filters for future oil changes:
Royal purple, Mobil 1, K&N, and Napa Gold Oil filters.
Are doing the oil changes that easy and simple, just unscrew the bolt for the oil and let it all drain out in a oil pan, when it drains all out then take out the oil filter. Let it drain the rest and then change the oil filter, plug back up the bolt and then pour in the new 6 quarts of oil and thats it? Are they any other things to do or tools needed, is there something i shoukld not do that may cause harm to the car when doing the change? Is that all it takes to change the oil and thats what im paying 60$ for?
Thanks in advance BTW!
Yes, an oil change is super easy to do. And as long as you change your oil regularly it doesn't matter what oil and filter you use. IMO, K&N oil filters, or any other specialty oil filters, arn't worth the extra money. I just use a regular NAPA filter and Mobil 1 when it's on sale.
Yes, it's that easy. Mabe pour a little bit of oil into the new filter before you screw it on. Also, the oil filter should only be hand tight.
Make sure also the old oil filter gasket comes off, if not you will get a "double gasket" and the oil will spray out all over the place.
Being that its a suv, that oils going to travel a pretty long ways before it hits the pan on the ground, its going to splash out. Try to get the pan close to drain plugs, its a 13mm if I remember right and the filter its on the passenger side of the block farther up. Once you crack it loose oil going to spill out over the sides, let it drain some. And when it get it all the way off, more oils going to pour out.
I got it to make sure i get that gasket off, also ya ill have the pan right under it as close as i can get it. Also the filter needs to be hand tight yes when you put it in but when its time to take it out you just unscrew with your hand right? So what is the wrench off thing mean on the K&N oil filter? So ya you think is should like take some oil on my finger and rub a little on the gaskets and ring of the filter? And ya pour some oil into the filter and THEN screw it in to the car hand tight?
I am still a noob at this stuff so ya what is BOITOG? I heard of a thread called BOB the oil guy, is that forum worth it to check out? I have looked for a Chrysler Aspen forum for our SUV and there is only one which is pretty much a Ghost town and boring and well no one there at all and dang the GPF looks 20x better if not 50x better and more active as well. So pretty much that place was no help to me at all. Sad a this forum is more help than that one is.
To be on topic, so that pretty much an oil change that i can do myself every time i need to with just regular hand tools? And save money from paying other people to do it?
I don't pour oil into them unless its a diesel truck, so thats parts up to you. Its a pain in the ass sometimes when you have to weave the filter in and out and around other parts on the vehicle.
Just make the filter snug, you dont want to crank it on there, but also not too loose that oil will seep past the gasket.
You should be able to do this job just fine.
Thanks for the link, i did not read it slowly but skimmed through a bit to the end and ill read it again but it make the oil change seem to be easy. Thanks for all the help and i guess once we get a oil change done a couple of times it should be easy to do. After a couple times ill feel like a pro, lol.
Ill take you up on that and ya i wont pour oil in the filter just rub a dab of it on the gasket/o-ring. Thanks for your guys help and i think ill it this weekend so ill have pics on here to show you guys how we did it on our Chrysler aspen. BTW the suv seems to be high enough to go on our backs and do the change. We do have a little old jack and if we use it to lift the car BUT NOT GET THE WHEELS OFF THE FLOOR, just lift the body and engine of the car a little more will it be safe with just the jack since we go no jack stands?
Thanks again for the help and oh yea one last thing are any of these oils good to use?
Royal purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, or Castrol edge. All fully synthetic, We are leaning towards using royal purple but we got to see the prices since people say they are expensive, but the castrol edge we are using right on is like 8.99 a Qt which i think is already expensive. If any of those oils are good we will use which ever is cheap or the best.
thanks again for the help and thanks for that link it explains everything so well that a cave man could do it.
All the oils you mentioned are good, choose your poison. I prefer Royal Purple, but due to price I run Mobil 1.
The best thing about your ordeal is that once you get the hang of doing your own oil changes, you'll wonder why you ever paid to have it done. Nobody touches my ride, except my best friend and that is because he does my alignments for free.
Nice, ya if we can get the tools we could do other stuff ourselves too but expect of the Alignment. Ya we will check it out and see what oil is the cheapest and possibly get either Castrol or Mobil 1 of Amsoil or Royal Purple are too much. And since we got 2 K&N oil filter for the price of one already we can use those in our next two oil changes.
Thanks for all your guys help and ill let you guys know how we do and if we need any more help. Thanks all you guys and thanks for the link too thatch big help.![]()
get one of these NAPA AUTO PARTS
there are other styles out there you may like better, makes life real easy to do yourself
Thanks for the link but i dont think i will need that thought.
Hey ive been looking at Mobil 1 oil which is the only one i can find that is 5W-20 for our SUV. Theres two different kinds, one says extended performance the sticker is gold. The other is just regular and both say the Advanced Full synthetic Motor Oil. The regular one just says that but the gold one says guaranteed protection of 15,000 miles. and that one is like 10$ and the other is 9$ a quart. What do you guys think of Mobil 1, great oil and TRUE Full synthetic? Ive heard some people say that it is not really fully synthetic, is that true or are they and are they really good and worth the price? Also both say that Nascar uses this oil so really that good or what? Cant find Royal Purple or Amsoil just Mobil 1 and Castrol.
We used to use Quaker state in our car but they dont have it for 5W-20, So ya our SUV has 72k miles, and is the Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge great oil to use for the life of the car? Also is it long lasting oil too?
