Its been a sad and hard last few days. On Friday Aug 17, 2012 at 2:10 PM one of our brothers Dalton Smith (BlackNRedGT) died of injuries sustained during a collision with a state trooper. He was only 19 years old (Dec 5, 1992) The accident happened at about 1:30 PM where he was then life flighted to a nearby hospital.

About two weeks prior to these events, Dalton had sold his Grand Prix to a buddy with hopes of buying a GTP. His Dad and His brother connor (SmitysGTP) are gonna buy back his GP GT and build it in his honor. Nick has offered his assistance in helping with the build and that is much appreciated.

Dalton had been around on the site a bit and had met several of you guys over the years he was on here and he attended the last KCGP meet

if everyone could just take a moment to say something or send him and his family a prayer that would be much appreciated. Thanks guys

there is some info on the accident below if any one is interested.

sadly this is the end result when you try to out run the police.

the ad says thier chase policy is only for felony stops, so they wanted him for something is my guess.

either way nothing he did was worth what happened to him. stopping is always the best thing to do. especially on a motorcycle.

I remember his threads, didn't get to talk to him too much but regardless it is so sad to hear of anyone that is taken at a young age. He shouldn't have ran, but that doesn't matter anymore. My deepest condolences to you and his other friends and family. I am sure he will be sorely missed.

It is nice of them to build the car in his honor. I'm sure he would have liked that. I couldn't remember who he was just by the Screen Name but searched and found his Members Rides thread and a rant he posted when the GT was broken into.

to Ask why he didn't stop has been the easy question in the world to ask and why he didn't will never be known. All we know is he was on his way to northwest (our school) to get his transcripts to transfer to Missouri western. And that the initial police engagement was for speeding. Other than that the cops have shut their mouths

Made the trek up to St. Joe last night for the wake and thought I was going to miss it...

Showed up on time for once and the line for the visitation was literally outside the building, at least a couple hundred people waiting; pretty moving.

For the few times that I met him, he seemed like a very stand-up and responsible kid...and like a good friend of mine had said; "Good people can make mistakes too"...

Just happened to be this situation, and I'll say it again, I'm close to enough to where if you guys need anything...feel free to give me a shout.

We'll build this car, and it'll be one nasty sonuvab1tch.

Today was literally the saddest day of my life. I had to bury one of my best friends, and watch as his family mourned him. I'm never going to forget the late night cruises, sitting up at northbelt walmart, spending countless hours at sonic and not even ordering anything, and most of all I'm never going to forget how great of a friend he was. I remember calling him at 2-3 in the morning sometimes because I had nothing else to do and I knew that he would be awake and down to do whatever, even if it was just playing xbox until mid afternoon the next day. He's one of the few friends that would just call or text me to just talk and didn't ever ask anything of me. He was living in his own little world, a world that was nick-named "planet cool" by some of his friends. Dalton didn't care what anybody though about what he did, whether it be the way he dressed, or the way he modded his car. He was the only person I knew that rode a bike in a cut-off and khakis. I'm really going to miss him, Our little "group" will never be the same with out ol' D-Smitty. There was a speaker at his service today that said something and it really hit me hard about how caring he was. The story was about Dalton and a lower class man from our high school. The lower class man wanted to drop out of school because she was having a really hard time, Dalton approached her and gave her his tassel and told her that no matter how hard things can get just push on and things will work out. A few hours after the funeral I came home and was scrolling through facebook and I saw a picture of his memorial card next to a blue rose and a '11 tassel. This is that picture

Even through death he is still inspiring people. I know that myself as well as a few of his close friends are dedicating our builds to him. The car I'll be building isn't a 3800, but it's what he wanted me to build every time we talked.

He will be greatly missed. R.I.P. Dalton.

This is a sad story. I tend to side with law enforcement when reading these sort of things, but from my limited info from reading those reports it seems as if this could have possibly be prevented by better decisions by the police. I interpret,"as the cruiser pulled onto Highway 71 getting into position to join the pursuit" to mean, "I pulled out in front of the motorcycle attempting to slow him down and he ran into me because he did not have time to react." Unfortunately, even if he had not hit the police car, it's very possible that he still would have had some other accident shortly afterwards.

Rest In Peace like the man said out running the cops is always a bad idea but still should not have led to this, my prayers are with his family. If I lived closer I would love to contribute to the rebuild for them

Wow that is a good turn-out. Its always a nice feeling when you know your loved ones were loved enough to bring the masses together one last time. My ex had an older brother, he was a douche of the greatest caliber and had many enemies for a ton of reasons, god rest his soul. When he passed his family got a small funeral home to hold the family and close friends, had about 50 chairs available. The elders and immediate family was given the seats, the friends stood. They had more people show up than could fit standing in the place, people were standing outside the front door because there wasn't room. It really hit the parents because they couldn't believe that he had so many people show up, the respect for the deceased really helped them.

Just saw this, so very sad to lose anyone at such a young age. Agreed it's never wise to run from the law but they should not have been chasing him at 100+ mph for a speeding infraction. Unfortunately a common issue with these small village PD's where barney fife is trying to protect the "quality of life" for the numnuts that run the HOA....

    What a fustercluck.

May his soul rest in peace, and may light perpetual shine upon him. Amen.
