#1. Look at the 1/4 times. You are talking LT1 NOT LS1
#2. Look into insurance...(dont forget that your 97 GTP is only a GT with the GTP package in 97. My insurance company only knows it to be a GT)
#3. IT SNOWS IN MI. Prolly the biggest reason I dont have a RWD car. Love some of them, Dont wanna drive them in the winter.
#4. You say you can afford gas because you live at home and have NO bills..... Are you going to live there forever? So what are you going to buy a new car before you get your own place?
#5. You have a 97 Grand Prix which is in GREAT shape for the year. And you are thinking of tradeing for an older car... That has seen MORE MI WINTERS then yours.
#6. All of this would be a different story IF you had a second car to tool around in.. BUT you dont.
Again I say.... Sounds fun, But it is not the best idea man... Just my 2 cents.
the quarter mile time is faster stock to stock than a l67 but like you said, i would need a beater for winter unless we got another winter like we did last year, we didnt get much snow at all. i just like change, thats all.
Do what you want man in the end you only live once gas is never going to get cheaper if you keep the GTP you will wish you had got the TA if you trade you will wish you kept the GTP...all roads lead to wishing for something different or better...either way both cars can be sold when you decide to move on
I lost to an LT1 the other day, get it. I would.
its not a manual, obd 1.5, its not ls, its fail. id keep the prix. insurance will take a dump on you.
Full coverage on my 00 GTP is 75 a month(500 deductibles) my Trans Am was 90 a month, MPG in my GTP averages 25 my Trans Am was 19, MY GTP with HAI and headers feels almost as fast as my Trans Am did with just a CAI but never took either to a track for real times.
My T/A is a 96 it sat in a field from 99-04, I beat the hell out of it from 2004 till 2011, it was my DD for most of that time(3 winters with studded snows its not that hard) went to a huge car show 3 years in a row and destroyed brand new tires each year multiple street races just dogged the FVCK out, after 7 years the automatic grenaded itself first with the 1-2 shift then the 3-4 shift.
If it was me I would wait till you can find a 6 spd 96 or newer, that car is not worth 4500 but neither is yours, I hated the fact mine was an auto since the day I bought it but in 04 i only paid 1000 for it so it was too good of a deal to pass up.
Like i said used and abused
I had a 98 Fireturd, and it was nothing but trouble. If you think a GTP/W-body is a pain in the ass to work on, wait until you own an F-body....
