In about 2 years time I plan on getting a 5 year loan hopefully and buying a C5 Corvette. I know the LS1 engines can take a lot of abuse and are very dependable even with quiet a few miles on them. Been looking in the mid 15k range. I think a C5 Corvette would provide more fun while still looking much better than a GTO.

dont get the 2001 c5 corvette. the 2002-2004 had the ls2 which made 50 more horsepower. I mean the zo6 did, plus it had a different styling package and weighed a lot less then typical corvettes. also the z06's came stock with a 6 speed manual. if you look hard you can find these in the 17000+ range.

Which is why Davis said...C5 Z06...'01-'04, and it was slated with the LS6. Also, no C5 had the LS2, it was an LS1 car...until '05-'07...which was then replaced by the LS3 in the C6.

I'm not a fan of the Pontiac Cavalier. It's a heavy boat. You want an arrowhead car with the V8? Track down a G8 GT and save your money in the meantime. Drive the Grand Prix until it explodes. Seriously.

If you dont want to settle, get an ls3 vette. Best of everything but youll pay twice as much as you would for a c5.

C5 with the LS1 is a potent car. Especially if you start to mod it.

I still like gto's but the G8 would be alot more practical if you had the change.

my bad on the ls2, all I remembered was the 400 hp. I thought they started putting the ls6 in the z06 in 2002 but I could be wrong again. yes the ls1 is a potent engine but the ls6 is even more potent.

Since I will probably have a need for 4 doors, I will likely be looking for a G8 GT or LS6/LS2 CTS-V. Hopefully the prices can come down when the Chevy SS comes out.

you can assume the G8 is going to fall more slowly since it is a 'dead' platform. just look at all the LS camaros and trans ams that are still commanding $15k.

there's too many cars for me to choose from to pick one new car that i want. i am going to have to test drive a bunch of them. a short list:

    - G8
    - G37
    - WRX
    - EVO
    - regal GS (new ones, turbo ecotec)
    - audi A4
