Being in NJ, he's seeing about the same prices as I do in CT. $5K for a 97 is very high. The mileage is the only factor that brings price back up and yet.. $5K still seems quite high for any 97. However if the mileage were to stay low the car would be a collector quality car in no time. It's already almost an antique.

FWIW my neighbor got into her 2002 Dark Blue GT with 97K on the clock for ~$1200. Condition was bad, and that 1200 was after a new nose, fresh paint etc.

Problem with a car that old and mileage that low is you'll be doing all kinds of dry rot, flat spotted wheel bearings etc kinda stuff soon.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Not a bad price OP. What are your plans for the car?
    Thank YOUU!!!
I'm probably just going to be doing some basic mods for now, or when ever I get money. 3.4 pully, ubend delete, new plugs, new wires, 3" dp, CAI. Then after that I figure ill have some more exhaust work done. Headers, mufflers, tips, and maybe some electric cut outs. I want it to be pretty quiet but loud when I want it.

Prices for cars must be pretty bad around here. About a year or 2 ago I bought my 99 SE for 2500 from a dealer with 128k. Now I look back on how big of a mistake it was.

Try a 3.4 after headers. get a good tune for it. forget the catback if that is as far as you'll take it.

I paid more in an effort to get a reliable vehicle for the winter. I did not want to mess around in mn winter with replacing expensive parts such as an engine or transmission or have it break down in the middle of the road as you normally would with buying a used vehicle for ~$1000. Yes I consider these cars beaters; while others consider camaros, c5 and c6 corvettes beaters. It just irritates me when people shop around for a car and expect top of the line options, low miles, super clean with no rust/dents/scratches, but refuse to pay the price for it. When they finally find someone who doesn't have the time to put up with their bs and just gives in, they go around and brag about the steal they just got on the car, wait a year and sell it for twice the value they "stole" it for. All so they can blow the money on strippers, speeding tickets and beer. Makes sense if you don't think about it. People just always have to find a way to make money on everything in one way or another. I guess I will never understand it. Corporate America at its finest.

Hell yes i want to pay as little as possible for the best car i can find. You don't make money by wasting it like a sucker.
And modding your dd isn't wasting it it like a "sucker" ?

If you buy it cheap, there's more money for mods.

FYI My '04 GTP is stock but retuned for 89oct
And my '00 Regal GS is modded and tuned for 87oct.

Again, Only a sucker pays KBB or asking price for that matter.
Say what you will to make yourself feel better though, guy.

I paid 3200 for mine, but it had a lot of stuff finished already; had a great list of mods on it. I didn't have to do a whole lot to bring it to a point I was comfy with. Were it not for the mods I wouldn't have paid more than 1500 for it, and that'd be stretching it.

I think that damn car was work every penny of $4800, it was garage kept which means no rust possibly and low damn mileage. Your not going to find it for lower at least not around here, some dumb ass was $8,000 at a deal with 150K miles on it

97's are nothing but headaches............ low mileage or not, if he plans on doing any modding, he'll regret the 97 choice.

But to each is his own.....if you don't feel like you were taken, well good for you! Good luck with the car.
