Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
Wow, some of you are cheap. I know I over payed for mine, but time was not on my side and I refused to drive my ls1 in the snow. I paid $6k total for mine, which includes all sales tax, license, tabs, plates etc. Also considering the 10 other ones I looked at, the dealers wanted more and were in way ****tier condition. As already mentioned, prices vary a lot by the area. Some of you are just greedy, refusing to pay the asking price and low balling the hell out of it. Then when it comes time to sell it you refuse to let it go under a certain price. Sounds an awful lot like dealership car sales tactics. You just always have to make money, don't you.

There's a difference here.
I'm not selling my W-bodies.
Hell yes i want to pay as little as possible for the best car i can find. You don't make money by wasting it like a sucker.

After seeing how much you poor souls pay for Auto insurance i can't say i'm surprised.
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
It's simple... like Baseball cards, an item's worth is measured by what someone might be willing to pay for it, plain and simple. Same car with two buyers will have two totally different values place upon it. Doesn't really matter, as long as the buyer is happy, it's a good deal, nobody loses! So the best option then is to be an educated buyer, knowing what you're getting and the value placed upon it by others who want the same thing. Still then, you might be willing to pay more for something you want, happens all the time in Real Estate when a buyer falls in love with a house. You fall in love with a car and you'll be doing the same thing. No other reason why 20, 30, 40_ year old cars go for $100,00.00... They really shouldn't be WORTH that much now should they?
lol...
Just rambling... sorry.
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
The W-body is a mass produced car that is commonly seen on the road. It will never be a classic. That's the difference here.

In the 60's Impala sold over 1 million cars in a single year and the mustang sold over 500,000, I don't think mass production is a deciding factor for what is a classic car.
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
Let me clarify.
It's a cheaply produced front wheel drive for the masses. It will not be a classic.
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
I'm pretty sure there was people in the 60's said that about the Impala.
"Its a cheaply produced rwd for the masses, never a classic."

Not exactly. A cars true worth is based on Blackbook. Blackbook is what cars are going for at local auction. a 97 GTP at auction probably isn't bringing in much more than scrap blackbook.
If you're happy with it, that's one thing, but if you're going to say you got a deal at 5k... that's another story.

Yeah in new jersey everything's expensive, except for gas. That we have.

It's a well defined example, and an AUCTION is primary in defining exactly what I said, lol... what someone is willing to pay for an item, car or otherwise!
Baseball paraphernalia is the absolute BEST example as well. That one of a kind Home Run ball that sells for $100,000.00 today is a few thousand bucks next week when the NEW record breaking ball is hit. I could go on, and on.

By your estimate of it's value... I think you miss the point, lol. No worries!

^^^ Hurtful but mostly true, :th_bangheadonwall: is what it is like in my garage ever since buying my 97
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
GTP's for under 2 grand all day every day?
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
Paid $1,100 for my 2000 GTP with 187k miles on it.
Re: Why was my GTP so cheap?
I don't think that is a terrible deal considering the miles. I paid 6100 in 2005 for mine with 79k on it. But that was in 2005. You might have paid a little on the high side but it does have low miles and it seems to be in good condition. If you like it that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Actually he's correct. GTP wasn't a trim in 97 it was a package:
It was a $1,233 upgrade.
