get an older bike for cheap on craigslist and ride that for a while. i started my lady friend on a '81 KZ440 that i got from a friend for $200. now she rides a '94 ninja 250. she loves riding, but you really need a bike you can get for a cheap price and dont mind dropping a couple times because you will.

For this time of year, going into winter, I'd offer a few hundred less, but not much less. That would be a heck of a deal summertime price.

I'd offer it, but not reject a counter offer of $1700.

If it's in good condition, there is no reason not to, except heading into winter bikes have almost zero resale.

I paid $3550 new for my 2007 with 0 miles in July 2007 (peak season). 5k isn't a lot of miles since they are good for about 30k under typical operation, and there are enough people that have gotten 100k out of them with care. I rode mine as fast and hard as possible for the first 3 years I had it. Then spun a con-rod bearing at 9.5k miles strictly due to my riding style, ~100mph 5-6 days a week. A new engine cost me $700, almost the cost of new crankshaft/rods/bearings.

Even a stock 88-07 EX250 can out maneuver your typical police car if *you* can ride it like that.

3 years and only 9.5k miles? Then you're not riding enough. About to hit 10K miles, 8 months. Amateur.

Took the MSF class in April and I bought a Shadow 750. No crotchrocket for me, since I want to ride for more than 45 minutes. If you see a sportbike rider resting his left hand on his leg, it's not to be cool, it's because his back hurts. I have an 80 mile round trip commute every day, and I enjoy every minute of it on my bike. I don't ride in the rain, but it was 25 degrees Friday and I rode in. As long as there's no ice, I'll be riding in.

I've got a transforming helmet, a Scorpion 900. Full face for the winter, can convert it to 3/4s for the summer. I don't feel any restrictions of my vision in a full face. What I like is that I don't have to wrap my face in a mask or anything since the helmet takes care of cutting down the wind.

this is my suggestion for upgrades in this order

    1. front springs and slightly heavier weight fork oil will cause the front to dive less on braking so it stops better and allows the chassis to do its job when cornering. buy the .90kg/mm
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/92/34318/22736/PITEM/Race-Tech-Fork-Springs-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx
    2. go on ebay and find a ninja 500r rear shock. its a cheap and great bolt on upgrade for the rear suspension for the 250. finding a good aftermarket shock is expensive and you wont need something like that anyway. your a larger guy and i think the combo of the racetech front springs and the ninja 500 rear shock will do you well. they can be had for around 25 bucks
    3. steel braided front brake lines will give you better stopping capability
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/82/6294/22736/PITEM/Galfer-Stainless-Steel-Hydraulic-Front-Brake-Line-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx
    4. a +2 rear sprocket setup will give you a little more pull off the line.
rear stock size is 47 so select a 49
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/85/21019/22736/PITEM/Parts-Unlimited-520-Rear-Sprocket-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx
    5. exhaust will give a nice sound and a little more power
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/88/36203/22736/PITEM/Two-Brothers-Racing-M-6-Slip-On-Exhaust-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx
    6. jet kit will give a little more power as well. stage 1 or 2 only
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/90/10057/22736/PITEM/Dynojet-Stage-1-3-Jet-Kit-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx
    7. k&n filter, nuff said
    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/429/6569/22736/PITEM/K-N-High-Flow-Replacement-Air-Filter-2007-Kawasaki-Ninja-250R-Parts.aspx

this will make the bike more enjoyable and will also keep you interested longer.

now. i cant tell what condition the tires are in, but a good set of tires will make the world of difference on the bike. if those are the original tires that came on the bike in 07 then replace them immediately.

my recommendation for tires is this
