I took a look at it earlier today and noticed that the bearing is already split across the oiling hole, so I'm going to try and just roll it into a smaller ring around a lobe and try and pull it through like that. I'll update tonight if I get anything accomplished. I may not since I work until 10pm
Well, I have both good and bad news from my work so far today.
Good: I got the cam and FUBAR'd bearing out of the block and the oil pan dropped.
Bad: I have no clue where my third bearing from the front is...(edit: NVM, found it neatly perched on top of the #3 rod.)
I destroyed the oil level sensor because I left it in the pan while I removed it.
Pictures coming.

PICTARZ!!
I had to stretch the bearing open and pop it off of the cam. I bent it back close to round to show about how it looked before I removed it. Also, the rough scratches on the outside of the bearing are from me using a screwdriver and pliers to get it spread apart and off the cam.
How bad do those score lines on the inner two journals look?

Holy cow dude. Did those bearings get like that as a result of the tear down or were they like that to start with? Ive seen a lot of odd things but never that. Might be a good time to go with some good clevite bearings.
That first bearing looked pretty much like that already. I introduced some scratches and dings with a screwdriver, but the majority of the damage was done by the car. I guess it's a good thing I already have a new cam to put in since the original one is pretty much useless now.
Actually, Scotty... I've got a set of Clevite's already headed this way from ZZP!![]()
WoW thats some pretty scary looking scores. Good luck with your build. I'm looking forward to keeping up with you thread of rebuilding!
i told you it was a screwed up bearing like three weeks ago. damn im good.
good luck getting it all back together. i would have just bought a new block..but thats just me.
My hats off to you for persevering through all this and getting it done. I wish I had been able to get out there and help you but time was just not working for me.
No worries, Scotty. I guess it's kind of a good thing since this weekend project turned into a two month rebuild. I can't wait to get my baby back on the road! You know how boring it is to drive a Regal with a screwy transmission for 2 months?? lol
I got the bearings in and the cam installed (It went much smoother than I expected). I've got the front cover on and will button up all of the bottom end tomorrow and start on the top end. I have yet to receive my new valve springs, so I believe I'll go ahead and put the heads back together with the stock springs for now and put the new ones on when I get them. Hopefully, assuming I can find all the nuts and bolts and remember where they go, I'll have the car running this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed!
You'll be surprised how well you remember.... any Questionable ones, post a pic, and hopefully we can Identify it
Dont get in a rush. If you drop a valve putting the springs on then you'll have to pull the heads back off. I would just leave them off for now until you get the springs. Im glad to hear things are going back together. It should be an interesting ride once you get it back together.
Okay... The bottom end is together with the exception of getting the steering coupler aligned. I got ready to roll the car back and the steering wheel just spins!?! I'm pretty sure I accidentally disconnected the coupler. Can I realign it without lowering the cradle again?
If you can get to it I dont see why not. But thats really just a guess since i've never done it before.
Glad you got it back together.
