I know many people are happy with the flood of individuals.

I'm concerned with the fact that some folks comming in here may be the buttheads that made the other site bad. The profanity restructions do help but will the moderators be able to handle all of them?

Also, with the flood of folks, is there still enought bandwidth on this site? Will this soon have ad mouseovers?

I guess this is a question moreso to the admins.

First off, Welcome to the site! I didnt see an introduction for you so let me be the first to welcome you.

As the site grows, Admin will appoint more Moderators that share the same vision as they do. I am not sure about the Bandwidth, but thus far the Admins have a plan for things to come. I am sure they will be more than happy to jump in here and answer your concerns more thoroughly.

The Admin's and Moderators are up to the task, and welcome the new comers. There are a set of guidelines posted in every forum that everyone should read and follow. This will make things run smoothly. We are all (mostly)adults here, we know what content is appropriate, and what is not.

This Forum is not vendor Bias per say. Admins welcome even the little ones, this is what makes the competition so great. Even if you have an idea, feel free to post it up in the "Necessity Corner forum." As far as ad Mouseovers....I would have to have the Admin answer that. I do know if a vendor becomes a sponsor, they MUST follow the same rules as each and every other person on the board.

    ^^^ Well said.

I'll add that dont be too concerned. And thats not meant in a voice of "dont bring this up" its meant in a voice "its okay and we got it under control". There is no way to avoid any of the trash talkers from signing up here, and to be frank, I dont want to keep them from signing up here and here's why.

First, I believe that the other site kinda brought it out in people because the checks and balances were not that good over there. People will inherently go as far as you let them. In other words, they will push the boundaries until the boundaries push back. Unfortunately for over there, the boundaries was usually a ban when you went too far. Im not saying that is the case for all occasions just that the perception is that and I saw little else so if things were different from that, I wasn't partied to the information. Here, the rules are VERY clear and the actions that will be taken are VERY spelled out. If you get banned here, I think after the number of chances we give, you deserved to be banned.

Secondly, I believe in second chances. Second chances are inherently difficult to give because to do so means you have to be willing to lay aside what has taken place and how it made you feel and to do any less is not a true second chance. I would prefer they come here and see the environment we have, the commitment we have, the atmosphere we have and let that affect them to such a point they self-police and reign in any behavior that could be deemed incompatible with our home here.

That said, if they do take it too far and do get out of line here action will be taken. I am not here for a popularity contest. My goal and vision is to promote the Grand Prix, Regal, Monte Carlo, and all the others and the 3800 as a whole. To spread an infectious enthusiasm to such a degree and level that anyone outside the community wants to go look for an buy one of the vehicles in our community because they cannot stand to NOT be a part of this.

With regards to bandwidth, we got it covered. We try to sit back and take stock of where we are at and what may be needed in the near future so we keep an eye on those things and we have plenty of room.

I don't for see this forum turning into the cubgp that so many people were tired of. I don't know what Mikes goal was over on clubgp in the beginning but over here it is made very clear what the Admin's want. They have clearly stated that no matter who you are the rules will be enforced the same for everyone. As long as the rules are enforced that in itself should keep the "buttheads" from staying here. Also once the people using profanity realize that profanity is not allowed here they will learn to change the words they use here if they want to be a part of this community. That is just how I see things.

Whoa as a new commer this was a bit of a slap in the face to see right away. Almost comes at you like you want to have a closed society in here alphabetabase. What it sounds like you are a proposing is a death sentence to this site. No new members = no growth = dead site.

I dont think that was AlphaBetaBase's intent, but I am not going to speak for him. What I will do is tell you that EVERY person is welcome here in this forum and EVERY person will be treated the same, whether you are a vendor or a user.

Right now we are on a server that can handle WAY more than we have right now, and by design the server is overkill for 1000 users, so 287.....well lets just say thats not a problem

As far as rollover Advertisments.....Yes it is a good way to make SMALL amounts of money to help run the site, we dont think its worth ticking everyone off and losing a good user base, so what the plan right now is, is that if you are signed in as a guest, you will get rollover advertisements....If you are signed in as a user, you do not....

As far as the "buttheads" from other sites.....well they to will have to follow the rules. Think of it like this...3 strikes your out for a week, come back and mess up again, your out for a month, come back and mess up again, your gone, period. Infractions are held for 12 months and then drop off your record, so if your a "butthead", get banned for a month, come back on and decide to follow the rules for 12 months straight, you have a clean slate now.

Didn't know about the guest ads/user no ads setup. Nice.

My intention wasn't to indicate we should not include new members and have some type of proprietary site. Looking back at my post, I’m not sure how this was interpreted this way. No biggie.

I had a concern that due to the flood of folks would the bandwidth and server handle it. Based on the responses, the answer is "Yes for now and for the near future. Got plans in case it needs to grow." The other concern was a lot of butheads may migrate over also. The response was “Each person will get treated equally. When they mess up, they’ll get warnings and banned if it keeps up. Doesn’t matter what they did else where. Clean slate. Everyone gets a second chance. We have enough people to cover it.” Sounds good and fair to me. I guess overall, the “flood” is not that big to cause concern.

This site is on a dedicated server. which i already had for my other site. It pays my bills and don't want to be at the mercy of a shared server, so i have always just had the extra hardware. We doing good on server load. We can handle bandwidth wise pretty much all of the last 2 weeks combined daily.

Ads etc. I do plan to put some on for guest. This is to help encourage people to register and help reimbursed me for the hosting and software that i have had. Probably put a banner at the top for vendor adds when we go that route. Which will probably be when we need to spend more money on a bigger server.

Let me say something here. I've been a long time member of ClubGP since 1999. Recently there as been a spite of bannings there by the owner due to issues with vendor rules. I would suspect most of the people coming here will be good helpful folks that got banned because of strict vendor rules at the other site. Not BAD BOYS as some of you might think.

Actually, that's why I posted. After a couple of the vendors were banned, several known idiots that go around only placing insults in questions were banned too after cursing at the admin on the "why did ... get banned" threads. They took advantange of the situation so they can have fun.

I'm not worried anymore based on the replies and I noticed some people migrated over with their free will.

I think much of the spamming was done out of Anger and frustration at the ClubGP Admin. That place as almost no clue how to run a Car Club. The Owner is in it for money, and $$MONEY ONLY$$. I mean from the get go, the Owner appointed 2 -3 Mods and basically left them to tend to the site. They did not coordinate. rarely updated, and rarely participated. You can not have 10,000+ members roaming an online forum with only 2-3 mods trying to enforce... They got overwhelmed fairly quick.

Well with every type of public venue, you are going to have good and bad. The key is to stay ontop of the bad and not to let it get out of hand. Once people understand what the rules are and that they are enforced equally across the board, then a majority of people will stay within the rules....you will always have a few that have to push it.

If it is a must to keep the site open I can tolerate the ad mouseovers but they were a PITA at ClubGP. I can do without the profanity and constant arguments about whether or not someone is lying about what they have installed or their track times with minimal upgrades.
On the other note, I like having the "bad boys" around because they are the ones that are thinking outside the box. They have an idea and they actually follow thru with them. Sometimes we like the upgrades and sometimes not, but all in all they truley come up with some great ideas that work unlike most of the junk that ebay is peddaling for our cars.
debadged, clear corners, 20% tint, tinted tails, vibrant performance tips, red painted calipers, Fig. grills, autometer guages, PFYC 3 pod A pillar, SLP CAI, 2.5" DP, SD Hood, SD front air damn, Gen I spoiler, 17X8 Borbet Type M rims, engine upgrades soon!
