Im in the process of selling my 97 gtp and looking to upgrade body styles but i was wondering if im gunna buy an 04 is it worth getting a comp g or is the normal gtp fine. I know the comp g has the the paddles shifters and the different supension but is it worth the few extra bucks? Thanks for the advice.

It's nice to have the extra features, but when one of those features break, they are more money to fix and it could be harder to find replacement parts.

I prefer non-comp Gs. Tapshift trans are the only ones that work with the Comp-G and the suspension is close to 2k to replace with factory maintnance items.

I have a comp g and I love it. Haven't had any real problems with it yet other than needing to replace a front wheel bearing. 136K and still going strong.

    Tapshift doesnt change anything.

    Suspension is better.

Hardly anyone replaces the suspension in the first place.

Comp G subframe bushings are cheaper.

Struts and springs don't add up to 1500 either.

Maybe if you did Bilsteins, but thats it.

Coilovers start at 1500, but will easily start climbing closer to 2000.

As far as I'm concerned, Stabilitrak is a worthwhile feature.

    As are 3.29's.

    Good thought.

On the same thought, when did the side air bags become standard, 05 or 06? My loaded 04 CompG, not sure if it had them.

Well heck, if you want 3.29's that bad just get a 97-03 GT and snail or top swap it....then you'd have 3.29's and the added performance of a blower or snail-charger.

    Thats not the question.

The question is 04/05 GTP or CompG.

    Both of which are supercharged.

You can put a non-compg trans in a compg but the tapshift won't work. You slide the selector back and you just get D3. Swap the valve body and wiring and you get Tapshift back.

And suspension wise you're gonna replace with whatever you're gonna replace with IMHO, there's only so many options for 04+ GPs with their unique front sway bar setup. Not sure how you get to $2k?

You'll never use the paddle shifters, I never did. I can't feel the difference between Magnasteer 2 and Magnasteer 1. The 10-spoke lightweight wheels and the red calipers are nice, nothing special. Best part of CompG is getting the 3.29 final drive ratio.

I doubt you'll spend any different from a GTP to a CompG GTP on the used market; most people who ticked the boxes for leather and sunroof and monsoon also ticked the Competition Group package so its just a matter of the extra options affecting the price.

    Consider a GXP.

Ha, who told you they came with koni's?

Best strut on a factory car is a Bilstein. GXP's only.
