My first car was a '96 S-10 with almost 200k. When we finally found someone willing to buy it for $2k we couldnt say no, so we sold that. I ended up driving my moms car (my GP now) around for a while. I couldnt find anything on craigs list, so I was pretty much forced into buying it. Definitely not a bad car, but I always wonder what I would have ended up with if i had a choice.

I traded my old 1998 Honda Cbr900rr stunt bike for 2 grand prix gt's. One a 97, the other a 98. Also got a L67 engine and trans, and a 8? Suzuki 250 quad.. all for my stunt bike Both had rod knocks so both engines were completely rebuilt. I kept the 97 as it is white and has the HUD, also for it being a 4dr and I have a 3 year old son.. so I sold the black 98 to my bro for $2500. Which was a downpayment on my new 2010 Kawasaki Ninja Zzx10r

Parents had an 01 GP GT that I drove daily. I liked it but they sold it. I had a Fiero that I could never keep on the road due to overheating issues so I sold it. I was without a vehicle and my uncle had a 98 GTP that he was willing to sell. Bought it for pretty much nothing. Still have it today and it's broke in the driveway.

    Here's my riveting tale.

An old hag hit my truck, totaling it. While thinking of what to get for a replacement, I thought about going back to my roots and get a gtp again(first car was a 97). Shopped around and found mine on CL. The add was about a month and a half old, but when I responded I got an email saying the add had expired. Fast forward two weeks and I see an ad from a hyundai(sp?) Dealership with the same car. Same cross drilled rotors and white trash daytona package. I then call the dealership, but they told me someone had a deposit on it. FML. So 10 minutes later I get a call back from the dealership saying the guy who was going to buy it got turned down for a loan and I can buy it. I drove down there, test drove it, fell in love, low balled them and we settled on a price. After the weekend I looked at it I drove it home.

I bought it because I heard it would beat Cobras.

Back in '05 when gas was getting expensive to feed my 11 mpg truck, I looked into getting a car for my everyday driving and saving cash. We had a program through work where we could buy company cars coming off lease for cheap. I bought an 02 SE and quickly realized how underpowered the GP is with a 3.1. I sold that and bought another lease car that was a black GT. That was the family car until about a year and a half ago when I got rear ended and totaled it. I found my current GTP with 57K on it and excellent condition so I bought that one since I liked my GT so much. After owning it a couple months and finding you guys, I learned about all the stuff you can do to these cars. Now it's a lot more fun to drive and better looking than my GT ever was.

I bought my car off a friend (1337ssei on a couple other forums), who in turn bought it off Andy Workman (member of ClubGP), who in turn bought it off some kid who put a 3.5" pulley on it and nothing else, who in turn bought it from an old lady.

For the record I did not and would never put silver flames on my hood. Just FYI (I think Workman did it).

Jenny, The '99 Silvermist GTP. With the mod's that matter.
I would rather lose by a mile because I built my own car, than lose by an inch, because someone else built it for me. Your car is your story, so don't let someone else write the book.

Um. Had a Sebring for my first car. Had a 2.7 v6 in it and one day the oil light came on while driving home. It had been about 1k miles since the last oil change. Anyway, got on teh google and found out the the 2.7 v6 is complete crap and theres a problem with sludge and stuffs. So I started looking at new cars and one of my neighbors had a 97-03 gt. I didn't really know anything about it except for it sounded nice and it was a GP. So looked more into GPs. Started to want a GTP. Then a guy we know who owns a dealership went to the auto auction and got mine for like $6200.

Started out with my old 1995 Grand Am SE with the 3100 I got when I was 17. The thing was a pile of garbage and was nothing but problems that I didn't care to fix. Terrible broken ass trans, leaked water into the floor (ended up having a plant start growing out of the carpet in the summer), radiator exploded, speakers blew out... Drove it for a little over a year until I was driving home from my friend's grad party. The low oil light came on and couple minutes later when I was accelerating normally from a stop the engine revved up way past the redline and I heard a huge bang. Car shut off and I coasted off to the shoulder, looking in my rear view mirror at the piston on the ground behind me.

Few days later I was car shopping with my mom looking at a bunch of bargain lots, all of them full of **** cars. Near the end of the day we went to the dealer that my family buys all of our cars from (for like...more than 20 years lol) had JUST gotten this shiny white 2004 Grand Prix GT in as a trade -- I thought it looked way too nice for me to have. So we took it out for a test drive on over to another dealership (that's right, test drove one car to another one) to look at a black 2002 Grand Prix GT coupe. The thing obviously hadn't been started in a very long time because the salesman had to wheel out the jump start kit, and it was parked in the least accessible spot on the lot, with a light pole in front of the car and behind it. Drove it around a little bit and was extremely dissatisfied. The salesman was pretty much ****ting his pants the whole time because he was trying to sell me a 2002 with no features when I rolled up in a 2004 with a decent amount of features. Long story short I ended up with this 2004 Grand Prix GT2 with 112k miles on it for $6400 out the door. Not bad for a stealership.

That's my story, I'm gonna stop pretending like people give a crap now.

i got mine off of one of my dads DT drivers from his dealership and the guy wanted to trade it in and buy a new car, my dad knew i was looking, looked at the car, call me, went to go see/drive it and 2 days later pay him 3k cash for my 2002 gp with 74k on it, the trade it valve on it from carmax and our dealership was 3k, so we just gave that amount to him and my dad got him a good deal on a new and used the 3k as a down payment,, and this was back in 07 when i was 15 the car now has 107k on it

Back in High School auto shop we were detailing a class mates parents SSEI for a group project in class. LOVED the car, and how it drove and how much power it had, which was a LOT compared to my Cavalier I was driving at the time LOL.

He was telling me while we worked on it in class about it, and went out on his own and got a dealers brochure on it, and other models were in there and gave it to me to read up on it. That's when I was reading about the GTP, I knew I had to have one. I knew one day I would have one, it just wasn't going to happen any time soon since the used price was around $11K.

Many years later, I was getting tired of my '94 Cavalier and wanted something newer and a little bigger. My dad was showing me the Dodge Avenger...ya...better not, so I started looking for a GTP, but in the only place I knew where I could find one cheep, and fix it up, the Insurance Pool, where you can buy cars Insurance companies total out. Ya they all have bad titles, and are either wrecked, floods, or theft recoveries.

There were two we were bidding on, a Green 2dr. '97 GTP that had a engine fire and burned the front to the ground, front tires were gone even. I wasn't "thrilled" about the car because it was green with camel colored interior. YUK! The other car was a red 2dr. '97 GTP with graphite interior, 66K miles on the clock, and it was listed as having "engine problems". Well, missed the green one by $100.00 and wasn't even in the ball park on the red one.

Few months later, the red one shows up at a guys farm for sale, $6,000.00 he didn't fix it, he was selling it as is to turn a small profit. I think he got it for $4K at auction. I went and looked at it, and started it and it was knocking loud, and had no coolant in it. We worked out a deal, and I bought it from him for $5k. Been in the the Grand Prix scene since 2001, and don't plan on selling my car ever. Going to drive it till the wheels fall off, and out them on again, and drive it some more.

Bought me a used engine from a totaled GTP that was damaged on route to the dealer, it had 7 miles on the '99 engine, bought that, and installed it. I made a car out of it, and drove it. The yard only wanted my supercharger as a engine core since I knew this engine was trashed, (or I thought). So I got to keep my original engine out of the deal.

Only had the car for 1 year, and I got rear ended and it was totaled, again. It already had a salvage title, insurance wasn't giving me what it was worth to replace it, so I bought it back, and fixed it again, I gave her a second chance at life again. Few mods, and a few thousand later, that's what I am still rolling today.

Some years later I rebuilt that old original engine into the beast we know today, turns out the water pump failed, and was pouring water out of it, and he, the P.O. kept driving it. Burned it up. Not a bid deal...only thing that I kept, and still use on this engine I have was the block, and crank. That 7 mile engine I ran for a year, and only had 11k miles on it when I removed it when I put in my built engine, it is sitting on a stand in the garage. Plan on keeping that engine for sure.

Bought my first vehicle about a year ago, 1993 silverado 5.7L. Was awesome! But i was always putting parts into it. Seemed like it was a never ending battle. Gas milage was HORRIBLE so i decided i would put the old girl up for trades on the internet. Got a few bull**** offers and than a guy offered me a 2003 grand prix GT. Long story short i ended up trading him. It needed nothing for safety and blew through the etest. Only thing it needs is an intake gasket and an upperplenum Parts, $300 labor $100 which isnt bad because i work in a shop so i know people. Love this car! Im going to be sticking to grand prixs for a long time to come now!
